HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-14 increasing fees for legal servicesRESOLUTION NO. 2008 -14 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH INCREASING FEES FOR LEGAL SERVICES. WHEREAS, the City of Ukiah (City) originally retained David Rapport for legal services on July 7, 1983; and WHEREAS, the City last approved a rate increase for Mr. Rapport on July 1, 2000 effective with the adoption of the annual budget for an hourly rate of $125; and WHEREAS, from 2000 to 2008 the Consumer Price Index has increased just over 25%; and WHEREAS, the City is preparing the budget for the fiscal year 2008-09 and needs to include any new contract amended rate as part of the City Attorney budget; and WHEREAS, a City ad hoc committee consisting of Mayor Doug Crane, Council member Phil Baldwin and Interim City Manager Thompson met to review the hourly rates of several cities in the Mendocino and Sonoma County area, including the cost of hiring an in-house attorney and legal support staff; and WHEREAS, the committee felt that Mr. Rapport's long tenure, knowledge and availability to staff and the City Council made him a valuable asset to the City especially at a time when a new City Manager was taking office. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that effective July 1, 2008 the hourly rate under the Contract for Legal Services between David J. Rapport and the City of Ukiah shall be $160, for all legal services furnished under the contract.
