In order for everyone to be heard, please limit your comments to three (3) minutes per person and not more than 10 minutes per subject. The Brown Act regulations do not allow action to be taken on non-agenda items. IV. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS: NEW BUSINESS a. Request to establish a bus stop southbound on North State Street between the entrances to the Food Bank (888 North State Street) and Lee's Fast Foods (816 North State Street) specifically 240 feet south of the traffic signal post at Low Gap Road, extending the full 25 foot length of the curb. OLD BUSINESS a. Consider re-establishment of bus stop on Gobbi Street, westbound, near Leslie Street intersection -Steve Turner, MTA b. Review Committee Membership as established by City Ordinance. Page 14 3.3.1 SAMPLE'LIGHTGUARD SYSTEM FOR 10 IN-ROADWAY WARNING SIGNALS 5.0 PUSH BUTTON ACTIVATION 5.1 MANUAL PUSH BUTTON ACTIVATION DESCRIPTION Manual installations utilize a standard pedestrian operated push button assembly to activate the system. In these installations, a pole mounted control box containing the push button, a small sign with the words "CROSS WITH CAUTION", and a row of 4 flashing amber LEDs, as shown below, is placed near the entrance to crosswalk (See Section 5.2, pg.22). The row of 4 flashing, amber, LEDs indicates to the pedestrian the warning system is activated. The words "CROSS WITH CAUTION" remind the pedestrian to maintain vigilance for their own safety by paying attention to traffic conditions while crossing the street. These signs are placed at, or before, the crosswalk to assist in waming approaching motorists that a pedestrian is in, or about to enter the crosswalk. The embedded LED modules flash at the LightGuard SystemTM enhanced flash rate. This LED "enhanced" pedestrian crossing symbol sign should be installed at the crosswalk location as recommended in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to replace the standard yellow W54 sign. For school crossings, a W66 type (S2-1 in FYG) school symbol sign also available. NOTE: Any advance waming signs should be consistent with color of other signs. 6.2 LED "ENHANCED" PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SYMBOL SIGN DRAWING =LASHING AMBER :D LIGHT MODULES Tonal when system is active) NOTE: This LED enhanced sign should only be used in conjunction with an in-roadway LightGuard SystemTM installation. If you are a City of Ukiah resident, of driving age, and are interested in serving as a volunteer on the committee, we urge you to fill out an application. Any qualified individual who would like to make a difference in the community may apply. Pursuant to the Municipal Code, the Traffic Engineering Committee serves as the City's Traffic Engineer. The general duty of the Traffic Engineer is to determine the installation and proper timing and maintenance of traffic control devices and signals, to conduct engineering analyses of traffic accidents and to devise remedial measures, to conduct engineering and traffic investigation of traffic conditions and to cooperate with other City officials in the development of ways and means to improve traffic conditions, and to carry out the additional power and duties imposed by City Ordinances. In most cases, the Traffic Engineer submits its recommendations to the City Council for approval. Applications may be obtained at the reception counter in the administration wing of the Ukiah Civic Center, 300 Seminary Avenue, or call 463-6217 and an application will be mailed to you. The submittal deadline is 5:00 p.m. on February 22, 2000. The appointment will be made at the regular City Council meeting of March 1, 2000.
