RE: COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL FOR THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF A PREFERENTIAL PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF
225 ARLINGTON DRIVE
This is to report that the referenced matter was pulled from the
Council's Consent Calendar, at the request of Staff, and referred
back to the Committee for further study and policy recommendations
including, but not limited to:
1. Conditions warranting 'the granting of on-street
preferential parking spaces for the disabled.
2. Who will pay for the installation and maintenance of the
parking space.
As a courtesy to the neighborhood, a notice of the Committee's
recommendation was hand delivered to adjacent residents. Staff
received calls from two neighbors who expressed their disagreement
with the applicants reasons for the request.
Common comments were:
1. The only vehicles which are parked in front of the
applicant's are those of the applicant's family.
2. The disabled mother is taken from the home maybe once a
month.
3. If a preferential on-street parking space is granted, the
resident across the street will require one.
4. Questioned the use of public funds for the installation
and maintenance of the parking space.
5. Applicant has made the request to antagonize the
neighborhood.
Based on the above comments, the Committee may wish to reconsider
its recommendation to Council.

RE: NEW MEETING HOURS FOR THE TRAFFIC ENGINEERING COMMITTEE
Dear Steve:
As a means to encourage and promote the general publics interest
and participation in traffic issues within their community, and to
facilitate their attendance to the Committee meetings, Charles L.
Rough, Jr., has requested that the Committee revise their meeting
time from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mr. Rough suggests that the new
time schedule be on a trial basis, and that the day of the meeting
remain as the second Tuesday of the month.
Mr. Rough presently prefers the new Committee meeting time over a
recommendation that a Traffic Commission be established.
I have reviewed the Ordinance Code sections pertaining to the
Traffic Engineering Committee, and I find no provision nor am I
aware of any resolution that prohibits the Committee from changing
their meeting time from time to time so long as this time of the
meeting is properly posted.
It has been requested that the new time be effective for the
meeting of January 11, 1994, and notice of the new time is being
provided to the Committee members.
Sincerely,
c
