ROLL CALL Public Spaces Commission met at a Special Meeting on June 13, 2023, having been legally noticed on June 9, 2023. The meeting was held virtually at the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81764322746 . Commissioner Babbini called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. Roll was taken with the following Commissioners Present: Elora Babbini, Vicki Bitonti-Brown, Megan Parker, Casey Thompson, Rob Fitzsimmons, Joe Scriven. Commissioners Absent by Prearrangement: NONE. Staff Present: Neil Davis, Community Services Director and Araceli Sandoval, Community Services Administrative Assistant. 2. INTRODUCTIONS Commissioners introduced themselves to the attending public. Gretchen Stranzl McCann – Presenting Architect from GSM Landscape Architects. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES a. Approval of the Minutes for the May 9th, 2023, Regular Meeting. Motion/Second: Fitzsimmons/Bitonti-Brown to approve Minutes of May 9, 2023, a special meeting, as submitted. Motion carried by the following roll call votes: AYES: Babbini, Bitonti- Brown, Parker, Thompson, Fitzsimmons, and Scriven. NOES: None. ABSENT: None. ABSTAIN: None. 4. STAFF MEMBER PRESENTATIONS/REPORTS a. GSM Landscape Architects – McGarvey Park Landscaping Concepts Presenter: Gretchen Stranzl McCann Public Comment: Concerns with the project: - Preservation of current trees, shrubbery, commemorative benches - Preservation of the central sculpture - Park lighting, safety issue at nighttime - ADA accessibility, current state of pathways can be difficult for non-abled people. - Water sustainability Things the public would like to see in McGarvey Park: - Water feature for birds, dogs, pets. - Signage for leash laws - Signage of tree and plant species - Native plants - Low water use plants and trees Public Spaces Commission Minutes for June 13, 2023, Continued: Page 2 of 2 - Self-guided activity (labyrinth) - Picnic Table Other Comments: - Overall likeability of the current pathways. - Turf as a vital part of the park - Maintaining the current use of the park - Maintaining its serenity 5.
