RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF UKIAH APPROVING EXTENSION OF THE ABANDONED
VEHICLE ABATEMENT PROGRAM IN THE COUNTY OF MENDOCINO AND CITY OF UKIAH
WHEREAS, the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program and its administering Service Authority
were established by a Joint Powers Agreement in February 2013 pursuant to sections 9250.7 and
22710 California Vehicle Code; and
WHEREAS, the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program allows an annual service fee of one dollar
($ 1) on vehicles registered to an owner with an address in the County of Mendocino, including the
incorporated cities, to recover costs associated with abating abandoned vehicles; and
WHEREAS, under the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement program the City has recovered costs in the
amount of$92,759 over the past four (4) years in reimbursements for abating abandoned, wrecked,
dismantled or inoperative vehicles as public nuisances; and
WHEREAS, the Abandoned Vehicle program is set to expire in February 2023; and
WHEREAS, new legislation allows for an extension of the program with the approval of the County
of Mendocino and a majority of the cities comprising a majority of the population of the incorporated
areas; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to the City of Ukiah to have the program continue.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Ukiah supports the extension
of the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement program until February 2033.

call vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Orozco, Crane, Rodin, Duenas, and Mayor Brown
