HomeMy WebLinkAbout913435 ORDINANCE NO. 913 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH ADOPTING THE UNIFORM CODE FOR BUILDING CONSERVATION The City Council of the City of Ukiah does ordain as follows: SECTION ONE. Findings. 1. The City of Ukiah contains numerous older buildings which it is desirable to preserve to the extent that this can be accomplished without unduly compromising the safety of City residents and building occupants. 2. The Uniform Building Code in Section 104 relaxes some of the current Code requirements where additions, alterations and repairs can be made to existing buildings without making such buildings unsafe either structurally or in relation to fire exits and other safety considerations. 3. It is the policy of the City of Ukiah to preserve existing buildings and structures within the City to the extent that this can be accomplished consistent with the intent and purpose of the Uniform Building Code. Adoption of the Uniform Code for Building Conservation will promote these objectives. SECTION TWO. A new subsection I is added to Section 3000 of the Ukiah City Code as part of Article 2, Chapter 1, Division 3 of said code to read: I. Uniform Code for Building Conservation, 1988 Edition. SECTION THREE. A new Section 3011 is added to Article 2, Chapter 1, Division 3 of the Ukiah City Code to read: Section 3011 - Uniform Code for Building Conservation. The term "Uniform Code for Building Conservation" as used in this chapter shall mean the publication published by the International Conference of Building Officials entitled "Uniform Code for Building Conservation" with the year of the edition designated. SECTION FOUR. Section 3040 is added to Article 3 of Chapter 1 of Division 3 of the Ukiah City Code to read as follows: Section 3040 - Uniform Code for Building Conservation is amended as follows: The provisions of this Code shall not apply to buildings constructed on or after January 1, 1972. In the event of a conflict between the provisions of this Code and the alternative building standards and building regulations adopted pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 18959.5 (the State Historic Building Code), the provisions of the State Historic Building Code shall control, in all thOse cases where said code applies to the building or structure in question by its own terms. 436 SECTION FIVE. Publication and Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect thirty days after its adoption and shall be published as required by law.
