ORDINANCE NO. 900
AN ORDINANCE OF TRE CITY COUNCIL OF TRE CITY
OF UKIAR, ADDING A NEW ARTICLE 6, ENTITLED:
"SKATEBOARDS," TO CRAPTER 3 OF DIVISION 7 OF
TRE UKIAR CITY CODE.
The City Council of the City of Ukiah hereby ordains as fol-
lows:
SECTION 1. FINDINGS AND DECLARATIONS.
The City Council of the City of Ukiah finds and declares
that:
1. Under its local police power and the authority conferred
by Vehicle Code sections 21113 and 21967 the City Council has the
authority to prohibit or regulate the use of skateboards on
public streets and public grounds or other property under the
direct control of the City Council.
2. Inappropriate skateboard use has caused and will con-
tinue to cause damage to public property and poses a significant
risk of accident and injury to persons and property in portions
of the City with high concentrations of businesses, pedestrians
and vehicular traffic.
3. In monitoring the use of skateboards the City Council
from time to time may need to prohibit the use of skateboards on
designated public property under its control or on designated
public streets or sidewalks to prevent accident and injury to
persons and property where the risks of such injury have become
unacceptable.
SECTION 2. ADOPTION OF NEW ARTICLE 6, CRAPTER 3, DIVISION 7,
INCLUDING SECTIONS 6180 AND 6181.
A new Article 6, entitled: "Skateboards" is hereby added to
Chapter 3 (Crimes Against Public Safety) of Division 7 of the
Ukiah City Code, including new sections 6180-6181 as follows:
Section 6180. Prohibition on Use of Skateboards.
No person shall operate, ride, propel or use a non-motorized
device with wheels commonly known and designated as a
"skateboard" or any variation thereof in, on or over any public
street, sidewalk, sidewalk space, park, public pedestrian
walkway, publicly owned building, publicly owned property,
publicly owned facility, or publicly owned parking facility
within the City limits, when such street, sidewalk, space, park,
walkway, public building or facility is posted with appropriate
signs or markings prohibiting such use. The prohibition and the
posting of such signs or markings shall be first established and
approved by resolution of the City Council.
Section 6182. Penalty for Violation.
Violation of this Article constitutes an infraction. Every
person convicted of a violation of this Article shall be punished
upon a first conviction by a fine not exceeding $50.00 and for a
second conviction within a period of one year by a fine not ex-
ceeding $100.00 and for a third or any subsequent conviction
within a period of one year by a fine of not exceeding $250.00.

SECTION 3. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
A copy of this Ordinance shall be published as provided by
law and shall become effective 30 days after its adoption by the
City Council.
