HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-89RESOLUTION NO. 77-89 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH AMENDING PAY AND CLASSI- FICATION PLAN WHEREAS, in order to provide appropriate staff assistance to the Director of Public Works, creation of a new position is recom- mended by the City Manager, and WHEREAS, the position of Civil Engineer is not essential to city operation at this time, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Pay Plan is hereby amended to add at Range 44 the position of Assistant Director of Public Works, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the classification plan is hereby amended by adding the position of Assistant DirectOr of Public Works as more particularly described on the class specification attached hereto and made a part hereof, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the position specification Civil Engineer is hereby deleted from the classificatioln plan. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of May, 1977 by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen Brannon, Wood, Feibusch, Councilwoman Snyder, Mayor Simpson NOES: None ABSENT: None ATTEST: ~- M~YOR 3O 31 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS Definition Under gereral direction, to supervise and perform responsible professional work in public works engineering and construction, to assist in planning and directing activities of the Public Works Department. Example of Duties Under direction of Public Works Director/City Engineer directs and super- vises activities of the Engineering Division; coordinates work projects requiring engineering office and field work with other divisions of Public Works Department and other City Departments; assigns, supervises and reviews the work of subordinate engineering personnel engaged in the design and preparation of drawings, maps, surveys, plans, specifications, reports and estimates of Civil Engineering projects, evaluate need for and develop plans and schedules for long range engineering and public works projects, administers the engineering division budget; attends and provides technical assistance at meetings and conferences. May act for the City Engineer in his absence or at his direction. Employment Standards Education and Experience: Three years of progressively responsible professional Civil Engineering experience in a municipality,preferably including one year in a supervisory capacity over engineering personnel. Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as applied to the field of municipal public works, including planning and development, design and construction, and operation and maintenance; knowledge of technical, legal, financial and public relations problems involved in the conduct of a municipal public works program; knowledge of methods of preparing designs, plans, specifications, estimates, reports and recommendations relating to municipal utilities and pro- posed public works facilities; ability to plan, lay out, coordinate and control through subordinates the work of engineering,operating, inspection and other departmental personnel; 'ability to establish cooperative and effective working relations with subordinates, public groups and organiza- tions, and City officials; ability to prepare comprehensive and complex technical reports. Licenses and Other Requirements: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
