HomeMy WebLinkAbout74-31 4 $ ? 8 10 11 12 14 15 15 18 20 21 27 2~ ~0 RESOLUTION NO. 74-31 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA EXTENDING GREETINGS TO THE PEOPLE OF ENNIS, IRELAND AND OFFERING TO PARTICIPATE IN A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH THAT CITY WHEREAS, Ralph I. Buxton, Mayor of Ukiah while traveling in Ireland, visited the City of Ennis, and WHEREAS, Mayor Buxton to his delight found Ennis to be much like his hometown of Ukiah, and WHEREAS, Ennis has a population of 8,500 and Ukiah has a population of 10,095, and WHEREAS, Ennis is located on the Fergus River which is home to salmon and brown trout and Ukiah is located on the Russian River, home to salmon and the steelhead trout, and WHEREAS, the Irish 'meaning of the name Ennis is "a rain meadow" and the word Ukiah is derived from an American Indian word meaning "deep valley", and WHEREAS, Ukiah and Ennis are both home to fine eighteen hole golf courses, and WHEREAS, Ennis was one linked to seaside resorts by the West Clare Railway and Ukiah is near the easterly end of the California Western Railway known as the "Skunk" which connects the interior to the California seacoast, and WHEREAS, the merits of Irish whiskey are known to the citizens of Ennis and the citizens of Ukiah NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Ukiah hereby extends fraternal greetings to the 1 2 4 $ 6 ? 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 2O 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 82 Town Council of Ennis and invites the establishment of s sister city relationship BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ukiah City Council extends the hand of friendship to any member or representative of the Town Council of Ennis who may visit the United States and invites said members to visit Ukiah in order to firm the bond between the cities PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of December 1973.
