HomeMy WebLinkAbout73-58 1 2 4 $ 6 8 9 10 11 12 14 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 26 28 81 RESOLUTION NO. 73-58 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIKIAH URGING EXTENSION OF CRIME CONTROL ACT, PART I WHEREAS, Part I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, PL 90-351, will expire on June 30, 1973; and WHEREAS, three major proposals (S 1234, HR 5746 and S 1497) have been intrc, duced in the current session of Congress to replace Part I of said Act; and WHEREAS, it is vital to local government throughout California and the rest. of the United States that programs funded under said Act be continued uninterrupted in the effort to reduce crime; and WHEREAS, it appears there is insufficient time for the Congress to arrive at a well-reasoned replacement of said Part I prior to June 30, 1973; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Ukiah, that the Congress be, and it is hereby requested to extend the existing Part I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 for one year. AND FURTHER, that during said one-year extension period, all interested parties be given the opportunity to transmit information and comment appropriate on proposed legislation to the committees of the House of Representatives and Senate for the purpose of developing a sound program for the re- duction of crime and improvement of the criminal justice system of the United States, the several states, and the units of local government therein.
