HomeMy WebLinkAbout72-35RESOLUTION NO. 72-35 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH SUPPORTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF NUCLEAR GENERATING FACILITIES IN MENDOCINO COUNTY BY PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY WHEREAS~ Pacific Gas and Electric Company has an application pending before the California Public Utilities Commission and the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission for authorization to construct two nuclear-fueled electric generating units in Mendocino County~ and WHEREAS~ the Environmental Impact Study submitted with the application has 9 i shown minimum effect on the environment, and 10 ! WHEREAS~ the City Council of the City of Ukiah believes the expertise and i' 11 !! integrity of the regulatory agencies involved will provide the public with 12 ii complete protection~ and 13 !' WHEREAS, public hearings required by law will be requested to be held 14 ,i locally by both regulatory agencies thus allowing public involvement in the 15 ii decision making process~ and 16 :~ WHEREAS~ the demand for additional sources of electrical energy has been 17 18 19 demonstrated dramatically over the past several years= and WHEREAS, the continued growth of California with assurance of a clean environment can best be accomplished by the use of nuclear power~ and 20 WHEREAS~ the use of nuclear power will provide the consumers of California 22 with a reliable and economical source of electrical energy~ NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council of the City of Ukiah does support the construction of the nuclear generating facilities in Mendocino i County, subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission and the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission= and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED~ that the California Public Utilities Commission ' and the Uo So Atomic Energy Commission are respectfully requested to hold their ! public hearings on this project in the City of Ukiah, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED~ that the Clerk of the City of Ukiah be directed to transmit certified copies of this resolution to Senator Cranston~ i -1- Senator Tunney~ Congressman Clausen, Senator Collier, Assemblyman Belotti, i U. So Atomic Energy Commission, California Public Utilities Commission~ Board ! of Supervisors of Mendocino County and the City Council of Point Arena.
