RESOLUTION OF TIlE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF [IKIAH DECLARING Mg.Y 3,
1979 AS SUN DAY
~tERI!AS, recent internat:ional events have made a future energy
crisis highly probable, and
[~EREAS, education of our populace regarding solar energy can help
alleviate many aspects of that crisis, and
I,~RFAS, every unit of heat created by a solar installation is that
less amount of energy which needs to be furnished by gas, oil or
electricity, and
t~t[EREAS, the use of solar energy decreased the air and water pollution
resulting from use of conventional energ~y sources, and
WHEREAS, sol. ar systems have shown a savings on fuel costs to consumers,
and,
Iq[-EREAS, the U.S. Government and the State of California offer tax
credit for installation of solar systems, and
W~RFAS, both the U.S. Government and State of Califonnia offer free
information and assistance about solar energy to the public,
NOW, ~illEPd~FORE the City Council of the City of Ukiah does declare
that solar energy is a renewable, non-polluting energy source which reduces
our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels and supplements existing energy
sources,
NOW TtIEREFORE BE IT RESOIA~D to encourage the widespread use of solar
energy and thereby May 3, 1979 is declared Sun Day, a time for public
celebration of, and education toward the increasing use of solar energy in
our everyday lives.
