HomeMy WebLinkAbout57-31 RESOLUTION N0o 57-31 URGING THE zS!ABL!SH~EI~T OF SONOMA STATE COLLEGE WHEREAS, there is presently no four year college serving the IWorth Coast Region of California between San Frm-~cisco and. Humboldt County, and ~REAS, the largest population center in the i~-orth Coast Coonties is in Sonoma County, and WHEREAS, a State College located in Sonoma County woul~ be available for students from Lake, Mendocino, Matin and Napa Counties, and WHEREAS, Senator Abshire has introduced Senate ~ill No, 69 and along with Senator Busch of Mendocino and Senator F. McCarthy of Matin County, Senate Bill 2619, to establish a State College in Sonoma County to be known as Sonoma State College, and ~HERE~S, the need for s~ch a college has been established by both the Senate Interim Committee and Joint Staff for the Liaison Committee of the State Board of Education and the Regents of the University of California. ~0W, THEREF0~:~E, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Ukiah that it does sincerely urge that the Senate Education Co~nittee recommend the early passage to the Senate of Bills No. 69 and ~o. 2619 for the establishment of a Stat,~ College in Sonoma County to be known as Sonoma State College; AND IT IS RE,~OL¥~ED URTH~;R that the Senate Education Committee recomr~end sufficient funds be appropriated for the establishment, e~uipping and maintaining of the Sonoma State College.
