Corpora'~ion of ~the 8th Class on Tuesday, April 8, 1958, and WHEREA~ section. 5~518 of the Government Code of ~California provides for the submission to the voters oJ.' the question of increasing or diminishing the compensation of Council- ~men .t'or their services, and ~74EREAS the growth of this conununity has ~ul'uiplied ~'ithe complexity of the duties of the City Council and is causing ~. increasing demands to be ~made upon ~he time of the Councilmen !at the expense of their personal business and while Councilmen !now accepl: personal losses to serve the Cit~~ there is a danger ! i that, in the future, .the small compensa'~ion now provided will prevent otherwise qua±±fied and active citizens from seeking the !i :~i oi'fice, and WHEREAS increo, s~d compensation should not be pa:id to 'councilmen heretofore elected duri~ their current term o~' office, i NOW TITEREF0iiE B.s IT H~SOLVED BY TIdE CITY COUNCIL 0F THE CITY OF UKIAH AS FOLLOWS: ~ First: The prooosition, oJ-' whether the members of the City Council of the City of Ukiah sna~l receive increased com- pensal~ion for their services over that provided by Ordinance NOo ii~2 is nereb~ submitted, pursuant ~o Section 565i~ oi~ the Govern- I ment Code and Section l't'l'~ o~~ '~,ne Elections Code of the State of iiCa±ifornia ~o the e±ec~ors or ~'~e City of Ukiah a~ the Genera± !it~,~unicipal~ Elec-~ion to be held in said City on Tuesda//, April 8, ~1°~8. The question so submitted shall be p~inted on ~he ballo~s il used at such election substantiaLl~ as I'oilows: i! "Shall s~ction 2[ of Ordinance No. 452 of the Cit7 of [! Ukiah which i:eads: "The members or the City Council of ~he City of Ukiah shall each be paid ten dollar, s ($10.00) ior each meeting of the said council attended, but not exceeding I'our (4) meetings in any one ~onth. The member of said Council selected by said council as ~ayor o!~ the City of Ukiah shall be paid the additional sum of Twenty dolla~.s (2~.00) each month. All such compensation shaili be in a~ition to actual and necessa~y expenses incu~.re~ by the members of said council in the performance of City business." I be revised to read as follows: SECTION 1: "The members or the City Council of the City of Ukiah shall each be paid ~75.00 per month. The member of said Council selected by said Council as ~.~iayor of the Cits~ of Ukiah shall be paid an additional sum of .~;50.00 per month.
