HomeMy WebLinkAbout61-25RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOS'I TI'ON 'NO" 15 10 12 15 15 16 17 WHEREAS, the present apportionment of the State Legislature is known as the "Federal Plan" and is modeled on the method by which members of Congress are selected, and provides for repre- sertation in the Assembly' based upon population, and representa- tion in the Senate based upon geographical districts; and, WHEREAS, the present Senate apportionment is constituted to, and does, safeguard the interests of the less populated areas, it being recognized that the metropolitan areas dominate the State Assembly; and, WHEREAS, Proposition No. 15 would seek the domination both branches of the Legislature by the metropolitan interests to the detriment of the lesser populated areas of the State and would destroy the "Federal Plain'l , under which California has grown and prospered; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Ukiah does 18 hereby RESOLVE: that it is opposed to Proposition No. 15 as an unjust and illogical mea:sure which would deprive the citizens of this area of their voice and representation in the State Senate and would create a dictatorship of urban interests.
