V,~HERE,~S, HAROLD BRUNNER has announced h i s ret i Ferment 'From 5' the Recreation and Parks Commission of the City o-F U!<iah, of 6~ wh ich he has been a member s i nce 1947 and of wh i ch he has been ? ~ Chairman for the past eleven years, it is only 'fitting and 8¢ , proper that the City of Ukiah gratefully record the: history of 9~ , Fir. Brunner's devotion to the cause of recreation. :Z° I, HAROLD BRUNNER has been a p.ioneer in recreation and parks i for the City of Ukiah and has fought for the facilities and the i program long before the Commission was established in 19~6. As ! far back as the early l'.)30's he served on committees ~:or the i establishment of Todd G~ove, now the Municipal Park, and the I5~ Municipal Golf Course. In ]935 he was the Chairman c,F ~he I6 : ,~ Swimming Pool Committee that brought about what is now the Ukiah Mun[cipa] Pool. I i8 He was appointed ~o the Ukiah Recreation Commission in ! after returning from World N',iar !1. Just two years ]aLer he was 20 ; ~ elected Chairman and has held that position ever s;~ce, His t ~ re-election as Chairman ever,/ year since ]9~9 by his fellow 22 ; Commissioners has been du,:': to his knowledge of recreation 2~ ¢, philosophies and goals, plus his dedication [o the community 2~ ~ ! welfare. Most of the advancements in recreation in this community 25 ~ have been in'F]uenced by his leadership, including the deve]opme~'~t 26 i. of the Recreation Department into a fut]-(ime integral part ~ the City government, the development of an ail-year program, the t 28 i: acquisition and building of G~orno Park and the development of a I 29 ~ ~. playground program. 50 ~' Many of the ideas and plans for recreation in the future i have origina~ed with Hr. BFunneF. These include plans for the 1 $~ I development of a Community Center building acquisition of HAROLD A. IRISH t CITY A~ODNEY CITY HALL i u~, C~LiFOR~l~ PNONE HO 2-2971 t~', Further park sites and the development of recreation on an area-wide basis.
