The City Council convened in regular session in the
Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Buxton,
.Councilmen Runkel, Smalley, Banker and Wagner present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman
Runkel', it-was unanimously carried the minutes of March
1, 1961 be approved as corrected.
RELOCATION OF CERTAIN ELECTRIC
SERVICE FACILITIES ON JONES
STREET~ B_ETWEEN OAK AND DORA:

A memorandum from the City Manager was/recommending the
abandonment of a power line in a backyard easement be-
tween Oak and Dora Streets to eliminate unnecessary
maintenance and to eliminate a complete duplication of
facilities. At the present time there is a parallel/line
serving Jones Street with the exception of three res-
id ence s ~
To abandon the backyard line and relocate three services
to street would cost approximately $425.00. Approximate
cost of maintenance of the backyard pole/wou~d be $600.00.

On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Council-
man Wagner, it was unanimously carried certain electric
service facilities on Jones Street between Oak and Dora
be relocated on the street as recommended by the City
Manage r.
REQUEST FROM LOW GAP ROAD
IMPROVEMENT ASS'N FOR BETTER
IDENTIFIC.A.TION..OF LOW GAP ROAD:
A petition and letter from the Low Gap Road Improve-
ment Ass~!n~ was reviewed by the City Manager request-
ing the Council consider better identification of Low
Gap Road. Mr. George Chalfant was present represent-
ing the group.
In discussing the matter it was suggested residents and bus-
lnesses on Brush Street be contacted by the City to ~.
determine if there are any objections to the street name
being changed to East Low Gap Road. This matter will
be placed on the agenda for further discussion at the
next regular meeting.
REQUEST TO CALL FOR BIDS FOR
REPLACEMENT PARKING ME TEBS:
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Council-
man Wagner, it was unanimously carried specifications
be approved aad the City Clerk be authorized to call
for sealed bids for 200 replacement parking meters,
bids to be opened at 2:00 P.M. April 4, 1961.
REQUEST TO ATTEND SPECIAL
RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS COURSE
IN CIVIL DEFENSE:
A request from Elder Phillip Dunham to attend a Special
Religious Affairs Course in Civil Defense under City
sponsorship was reviewed by the City Manager. Members
of the Council were in general agreement no action be
taken in the matter.

NORTHERN CALIF. FIREMEN'S CONFERENCE:
The Council was advised that the Northern Calif. Firemen's
Conference will be held in Ukiah Juhe 2, 3 and ~th.
The Fire Department has arranged to bring a damaged
aircraft to Ukiah for demonstration in firefighttng
procedure.
VEHICLE MAINTENANCE COURSE

The City Council approved that Chris Brill attend a
Vehicle Maintenance Course March 13th through 15th
sponsored by the University of California.
COUNCILMAN RUNKEL:
Mr. Hunkel reported that volunteer firemen have again
been requested not to violate traffic regulations when
attending fires. Names of volunteers violating reg-
ulations are to be reported to the City Manager who in
turn will take up the matter with the Fire Chief.
Mr. Runkel suggested work be done to correct the hazardous
C6ndition created by the dip on Clay~ Street. Mr. Cash
informed the Council that extensive drainage work is
necessary in this area and cannot be accomplished until
the summer months.
MAYOR BUXTON:
The Mayor requested and was granted permission to be out
of the State for the week of March 20th.
ADJOURNMENT:
As there was no further regular business, Mayor Buxton
declared the meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M. after which
the Council reconvened in closed personnel session.
