MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH - SEPTEMBER
13, 196~
The City Council convened in regular session in the Council
Chambers at 8:00 p.m. wi th Mayor Smalley, Councilmen Runkel
Buxton and Banker present. Councilman Wagner was absent.

LEGISLATURE AFFECTING CITIES:
The City Attorney reported receipt of the 1961 Digest of
Legislature Affecting Cities provided by the League of
California Cities and reviewed briefly legislature which he
felt would be of interest to the Council.
HEARING CONTINUED
TO OCTOBER ll, 1961
ANNEXATION NO. 62-1:
The

Council approved that public hearing on Annexation
62-1 be continued from September 27th to October 11,
at 8:15 P.M. as requested by the City Attorney.
POLICE OFFICERS' TRAINING COURSE:
The Council was advised that a police officers' training
course will be offered at the Santa Rosa Junior College
wi th classes beginning October 2, 1961. One officer is
eligible to attend this course at the present time.
RESOLUTION NO. 5484 OPPOSING
RAIL RAPID TRANSIT FACILITIES
ON THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE:
Copies of Resolution No. 5484 Opposing Rail
Facilities on the Golden Gate Bridge wi 11 be
to the Council for review.

COUNCILMAN WAGNER ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:20 P.M.
APPROVAL OF GAS
TAX FUNDS 1.961-62:
The City Manager reported receiving the budget approval for
expenditures of State Allocated (5/8ยข) Funds for the 1961-62
fiscal year in the total amount of $39,070.00.
BICYCLE PARKING:
The Council was advised that there appear to be no locations
available for bicycle parking with the exception of possibly
locating bicycle racks on the Court House lawn behind the
sidewalk area. The Bank of America parking lot was also
suggested. The City Manager was requested to investigate
the possibility of locating bicycle racks in the area of
the Court House. ,
COUNCILMAN RUNKEL:
Mr. Runkel suggested an auxiliary pump be located at one of
the water wells to insure ample water in case of disaster.
In discussing Civil Defense it was also suggested that police
department auxiliary generating equipment be installed for
emergency purposes.
The City Manager will investigate auxiliary pumping equipment
th rough Civil Defense.

COUNCILMAN BUXTON:
Councilman Buxton requested and was granted permission to
be out of the State the week of October 25th.
ADJOURNMENT
As there was no further regular business, Mayor Smalley
declared the regular meeting adjourned at 8:45 P.M. after
which the Council reconvened at 9:00 P.M. in c osed personnel
session with the Library Board of Trustees.
