HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 02-14-62154 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH FEBRUARY 14, 1962 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M. wi th Mayor Smalley, Councilmen Runkel, Buxton, Banker and Wagner present. The City Manager and City Attorney were absent wi th A. S. Kruth, Director of Public Works as Acting City Manager. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On a motion by Councilman Runkel, seconded by Councilman Banker, it was unanimously carried the minutes of February 7, 1962 be approved as corrected. APPROVAL OF WARRANT: On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Wag~e'F[ it was unanimously carried Warrant #2631 payable to Petty Cash be approved in the amount of $48.55. RESOLUTION NO. 62-23 CONFIRMING REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS REGARDING WEED ABATEMENT CHARGES: Public Hearing to fix weed abatement charges was declared opened by Mayor Smalley at 8:07 P.M. Notice of Public Hearing and Affidavit of Posting were filed wi th the Mayor and report of costs of weed abatement was presented by the Di rector of Public Works. There were no persons present requesting to be heard. Public Hearing was declared closed at 8:22 P.M. CLAIM FOR DAMAGES - STANFORD HANNAH - ~;64.26: On a motion by Councilman Runkel, seconded by Councilman Wagner, it was unanimously carried claim submitted by Peter J. Markovich in behalf of his client Mr. Stanford Hannah, in the amount of $64.26 be denied. CITY MANAGER'S REPORT RE PROPOSED COUNTY HOSPITAL CHARGES FOR CITY PRISONERS: The Council was informed by memorandum from the City Manager that on February 13, 1962 at 3:00 P.M. a discussion was held with the Board of Supervisors on the subject of County Hospital charges for City prisoners at which time he pre- sented a report indicating that four different formulas are currently in effect for the four incorporated cities of the County. Mr. Cash recommended a study group be established consisting of representatives of both County and City governments to analyze the entire problem and recommend an equitable sol uti on to this and other conditions of inequity which al so exist. By formal action of the Board of a study group be established as delayed on the proposed hospital been made. Supervisors it was agreed recommended and action be charges until a study has DENIAL OF CITY'S PETITION FOR RECONSIDERATION BY CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD: (Pacific Air Lines) The Council was advised by a memorandum from the City Attorney of receipt of a telegram from Congressman Miller to the effect that the Civil Aeronautics Board denied the City's Petition For Reconsideration re Pacific Air Lines. He noted that this action was not altogether unexpected and that the City's petition for expeditious handling of the bal- ance of the original petition still remains on the C.A.B. docket to be heard. COUNCILMAN BANKER: , Mr. Banker complimented the Engineering the successful manner in which the Clay problem was corrected. Department on Street drainage COUNCILMAN WAGNER 1. Mr. Wagner reported a street light out on the corner of Dora & Mill Streets. JR. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BANgUET SAT. FEBRUARY 17: An invitation was extended the Council to attend the Junior Chamber of Commerce banquet to be held Saturday, February 17, 1962. A police escort was requested for Mayor Christopher of San Francisco. Russell Clarke, Chairman of the County Republican Central Committee also invited the Council to be present at a coffee session at the Palace Hotel . MAYOR SMALLEY: The Mayor questioned the Director of Public Works as to drainage problems on Waug. h Lane and Mr. Kruth reported that during recent storms the ditches in that area could not take the water. He expressed the opinion that this is the most critical drainage area in the City. ADJOURNMENT: As th.ere was no further regular business, Mayor Smalley declared the meeting adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
