Counci ]man Buxton was absent. I NUTES: On a mot;on by Councilman Runkel, seconded by Councilman Banker, it was unanimously carried the minutes of June 6, ]962 be approved as submitted by the Clerk. APPROVAL OF WARRANTS: On a motion by Counci ]man Runkel, it was unanimously carried General $50,886.45 be approved and ordered seconded by Councilman Banker, Warrants in the amount of paid. COUNCILMAN BUXTON ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE HEETING - 8:02 P.M. RES. NO. 62-42 GRANTING VARIANCE TO D. W. CRESWELL~ D.C. 771 N. STERLING NORGARD~ 4t5 JONES ST.: On a motion by Councilman Sma]ley, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried Res. No. 62-43 be adopted granting Var. //62-]] to Mr. & Mrs. Sterling Norgard to permit construct- ion of an 8 foot fence around swimming pool area at side and rear of residence at 415 Jones Street, and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same. LEASE OF PORTION OF UKIAH MUNICIPAL AIRPORT TO UKIAH MODEL PLANE CI. UB: On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried lease with the Ukiah Model Plane Club be approved qranting us~ 3f a portion of th~ Uk~ah Municioal Airport for club activities and the Mayor and C]erk be authorized to sign same. VAR. APPLICATION #62-12 HOWARD HOOVER~ 112.3 MARWEN DRIVE: Mr. ',gm. Hoyle, 1175 Marwen Drive, was recognized inquiring as to the current status of Variance Application #62-12 by Howard Hoover, to permit encroachment into sideyard at 1123 Marwen Drive, Mr. Hoy]e was informed that a rep]y has not been received to date to the City Manager's letter to Mr. Hoover requestin9 withdrawal of the variance be presented in wri tin9. This matter wi 11 be reported to the Council when a reply is received. REQUEST TO CALL FOR BIDS FOR PROPANE GAS REQUIREMENTS 1962-63: On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Buxton, i t was unanimously carried the City Clerk be authorized to call for bids for propane 9as requirements for 1962-63 as per speci- fications presented by the City Manager, bids to be opened at 2:00 P. M. June 27, ] 962. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH JUNE 13~ t962 - PAGE 2 PROPOSED LEASE OF AIRPORT FRONTAGE FOR PARKING AREA:(KLOSS & ALWEN) Proposals for use of airport frontage property as a parking area for K.F.D. and The Patio were discussed by the Council. A written proposal from Art A]wen, representing the Patio, was read which was substantially different than the verbal proposal which has been under discussion with Ken Kloss of K.F.D. It was clarified that the current proposal is for a single parking lot 200' x 100' to be used jointly by the two applicants wi th unspesi fi ed improvements to the property. On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried the City Manager be author- ized to negotiate a ]ease with the parties involved for use of a portion of airport frontage property as a parking lot, the result of said negotiations to be presented for Council consi dera ti on. COUNCILMAN BANKER: Mr. Banker remarked on the hazard created by shrubbery and hedges at intersections and was informed that the Police Department is currently contacting property owners to correct this problem and will be advised to step up the program. , Mr. Banker again reiterated the need for a signal at Perkins and the railroad due to continual increase in traffic on Perkins Street. The City Manager reported there is a move- ment underway by the railroad to change the location of the switching operation, however, he has no current information as to their plans and will attempt to get further details on this matter. COUNCILMAN SMALLEY: o Mr. Smalley inquired if there had been any further develop- ments concerning City-county relations and the City Manager informed the Council that he will report on this matter in the forthcoming budget. , Mr. Smal ley al so i nqui red as to the current status regard- lng the purchase of P.G. & E. facilities and the City Manager reported that negotiations are still in progress. . Mr. Smalley displayed a Certificate of Appreciation awarded him by the Boy Scouts of America. COUNCILMAN RUNKEL: Mr. Runkel reminded the Mayor that the Council was interrupted in closed personnel session at the last meeting wi thout comp]eting the business at hand. It was agreed that a closed personnel session will be scheduled following the next regular meeting to discuss Commission and Board appointments.
