The City Counci! convened in regular session in the Counci!
Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Wagner, Counci!n,en Runke!
and Banker present. Councilmen Buxton and Smailey were absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
On a motion by Counci 1man Banker, seconded by Councilman Runkel
it was unanimously carried the minutes of June 27, ',962 be
approved as corrected.
APPROVAL OF WARRANTS:
On a motion by Councilman Runkel, seconded by Counci ]man Banker,
it was unanimously carried Payroll Warrants in the amount of
$30,]45.34 be approved and ordered paid for the peri od of June
15-30, 1962.
On a motion by Councilman Runkel,seconded by Councilman Banker,
it was unanimously carried General Warrant #3383, payable to
Metropolitan Insurance Company in the amount of $47/~.58 be
approved and ordered paid.
WITHDRAWAL OF VAR. #62-15 BY
TOWNSEND BROS. - 1200 SO. STATE ST.:
The Council was advised of a letter dated June 29, 1962 received
from Townsend Brothers withdrawing Variance Application No. 62-]5
for construction of a sol id redwood fence 8 feet high for
storage of automobi les and trucks at 1200 South State Street.
APPROVAL OF IMPROVEMENT AGREEMENT
AND FINAL. MAP OF FAIRWAY OAKS
SUBDV. UNIT #3
The Council reviewed the final map of Fairway Oaks Subdv. Unit
#3 and the accompanying improvement agreement was read by the
City '\ttorney. It was noted that the map has been approved by
the Planning Commission and City Engineer and the subdividers
have fi]ed a Certificate of Title. Improvements at the estimated
amount of $]1,000 have not been completed.
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Counc: 1man Runke],
it was unanimously carried improvement agreement for Fairway
Oaks Subdv. Unit #3 be approved a~-:d Page 2 ! ine lO be filled in
to read "Sth day of July, 1.q6g" (one year from date of execution)
and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same.
On a motion by Councilman Runke], seconded by Councilman Banker,
it was unanimously carried fina] map of Fairway Oaks Subdv.
Unit #3 be approved, streets and easements shown thereon be
accepted for public use, and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized
to sign same.
AERO COMMANDER, INC. PETITION
TO C.A.B. RE THIRD LEVEL SERVICE:
The City '!ttorney reported a request from Aero Commander, Inc.
for City support of its petition to C.A.B. for an investigation
of "Third Level" air service and recommended no formal action
be taken by the Council in support of the petition due to the
City's present litigation with C.A.B. re Pacific Air Lines.
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Runke],
it was unanimously carried the City Attorney be instructed to
inform Aero Commander, Inc. that due to present litigation with
C.A.B. involving Pacific Air Lines it would be inappropriate
for Ukiah to enter into the matter of the petition of "thi rd
]eve]" service at this time, however, at a future date the City
may be in a position to assist in the petition and would be
happy to do so.

AIRPORT COMMISSION: (HARLOWE, CLARKE & GILMER)
On a motion by Counci ]man Banker, seconded by Councilman
Runkel, it was unanimously carried Res. No. 63-1 be adopted
and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolution
Appoi nti n9 Members to Airport Commission". (Harlowe, Clarke &
Gi ]mer) .
RES.NO. 63-2 APPOINTING MEMBERS TO
RECREATION COMMISSION: (WESELSKY~ ECKMAN & THOMAS)
On a motion by Counci 1man Runkel seconded by Councilman Banker,
it was unanimously carried Res. 1~o. 63-2 be adopted and the
Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolution Appoint-
in9 Members to Recreation Commission". (Wese]sky, Eckman and
Thomas ) .
THELMA WILSON VS. PURITY STORES:
The Council was advised that depositions wi l l be taken on July
]Z+, ]962 i n the The!ma Wi ] son vs. Purl ty Stores case and a
trial date for the latter part of August will be scheduled.
CITY VS. LIBRARY BOARD
OF TRUSTEES:
The City Attorney reported that oral arguments will be heard
Thursday July 6th regardin9 case of City vs. Library Board of
Trustees.
HEARING BEFORE PUBLIC UTILITIES
COMMISSION RE GREYHOUND FARE INCREASE:
The Council was informed of a hearing on July ]Sth in San Fran-
cisco before the Public Uti ti ties Commission regarding an
application by Greyhound Bus Company for an intra-state increase
in passenger -Fares. A copy of Greyhound's appiication wi]] be
requested by Mr. Irish.
RES. 63-3 GRANTING VARIANCE TO
RICHARD H. FINN - 79o so. SPRING ST:
Planning Commission minutes of June 21, 1962 were reviewed by
the City Manager in which the Commission recommended variance
#62-iz+ be 9ranted Richard H. Finn to permit construction of a
fence around :wimmin9 poo] located at 7_90 So. Sprin9 Street.
The Council a!so reviewed other data pertinent to the app]ication.
Mr. Finn was pres,nt on behalf of his app]ication, however, 'there
were no other persons present requesting to be heard.
On a motion by Counci tman Runl<el seconded by Counci ]man B~nker,
it was unanimously carried Res. ~o. 63-3 be adopted and the
Mayor and Clerl< be authorized to sign same "Reso! uti on Granting
Variance to Richard H. Finn' to permit addition of a Q foot
high fence atop existing retaining wall on north and west sides
of swimming poo] area on property located, at 7a~x,, So. Spring St.
REQUEST BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
TO CONDUCT SIDEWALK SALE BY
MERCHANTS AUG. 23-25, ]962:
A letter from the Retail Division of the Chamber of Commerce was
read by the City Manager requesting permission for merchants to
conduct a 3 day sidewall< sale in conjunction with the fair
Aug. 23-25, 1962.
On a motion by Counc;]rnan Banker, seconded by Counci ]man Runke]
it was unanimously carried the City Manager be authorized to
inform the Chamber of Commerce of an ordinance preventing the
sale of merchandise on sidewalks with no variance procedure
covering this type of project.

JR. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SAFETY CHECK:
The Council was advised that a voluntary safety check wi 11 be
conducted by the Jr. Chamber oF Commerce on July 8th and they
request the use of Seminary Avenue (N. side) between State
and School Streets.
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Runkel,
it was unanimously carried the Jr. Chamber o,f Commerce be
granted permission to use the North side c].>f~Seminary Avenue
between State and School for a voluntary,:L~'heck contingent
upon receipt of written consent by the Sa tel ] ite Motel .
WRITE-OFF OF BAD DEBTS IN THE
AMOUNT OF ~2,728.O2:
On a moti on by Councilman

to write off bad debts in

A letter from the taurentide Financial Corporation, Ltd. was
read by the City Manager requesting booklets concerning the
historical background and points of interest of Ukiah.
COUNCILMAN RUNKEL:
Councilman Runke: reported that weeds should be abated at the
following locations:
Uti li ty pole at State and Standley.
Lot at the corner o'f Stephenson & School.
Star thistles between sidewalk & curb on Clay
Street.
BUDGET MEETING SCHEDULED
FOR MONDAY, JULY 9, 1962:
It was agreed the Council would meet in special budget session
at 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 9, 1962 in the City Manager's Office.
