MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH
AUGUST 22, 1962
The City Council convened in regular session in the Council
Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Wagner, Councilmen Runkel
and Sma lley present. Councilmen Banker and Buxton were absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
On a motion by Councilman Runkel, seconded by Councilman
Sma~'l'e'Y,-it was unanimously carried the minutes of August
15, 1962 be approved as submitted by the Clerk.
APPROVAL OF WARRANTS:
On a motion by Councilman Runkel, seconded by Councilman
Smal'ley," it was unanimously carried Payroll Warrants for the
period from August 1 to 15, 1962 be approved in the amount of
$30,306.54 and ordered paid.
COUNCILMAN Banker arrived at this point in the meeting - 8:07 P.M.
RES. NO. 63-11 DETERMINING AMOUNT
REVENUE NECESSARY FROM PROPERTY
TAXES AND FIXING TAX RATES:
On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman
Banker, .... i~' was unanimously carried Res. No. 63-11 be adopted
and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolut-
ion Determining Amount of Revenue Necessary from Property
Taxes, and Fixing Tax Rates ".
RES. NO. 63-12 APPOINTING MEMBER
TO CIVIL SERVICE BOARD - GEORGE DUNNING:
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman
Smal-l-e-~ it was unanimously carried Res. No. 63- 12 be adopted
and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, "Resolut-
ion Appointing Member to Civil Service Board" - George Dunning.
RES. NO. 63-13 APPROVING LEASE Wl TH
STATE OF CALIFORNIA (USE OF AIRPORT
BY FORESTRY DEPT.)
On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman
Ban"ker, it was unanimously carried Res. No. 63-13 be adopted
and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolution
Approving Lease with State of California (Use of Airport by
Fores try Department)".
THELMA WILSON VS. PURITY STORES:
The City Attorney reported that taking evidence in the case
of Thelma Wilson vs. Purity Stores was concluded today. A
tentative date of September 13, 1962 has been set for oral
arguments.
INSTALLATION OF SIGN APPROVED
FOR ENTRANCE TO GIORNO PARK:
The Council was advised that private funds in the amount of
$600.OO are available for the i-nstallation of signs at the
entrance to Giorno Park. A sketch was shown illustrating the
type of sign and the location proposed.
COUNCILMAN BUXTON ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:20 P.M.
On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman
Ru--G-6-k~was unanimously carried installation of signs at
the entrance to Giorno Park be approved as proposed, cost of
installation to be provided by private funds.

CONSIDERATION OF A CONTRACT AUTHORIZING
USE OF STATE COOPERATIVE PERSONNEL SERVICES
FOR CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION MATERIAL:
Consideration of a contract authorizing use of State
Cooperative Personnel Services for Civil Service examination
material was deferred to a future meeting.
DISCUSSION OF REQUEST TO ABANDON
PORTION OF HORTENSE STREET NORTH
OF SMITH STREET:
Discussion of request to abandon a portion of Hortense
Street north of Smith Street was deferred to a future meet-
ing.
STUDY SESSION RE PROPOSED
TRAFFIC ORDINANCE:
A study session regarding a proposed traffic ordinance will
be held in the City Manager's office on Monday, August 27,
1962 at 7:30 P.M.
CITY EMPLOYEES' BARBECUE
WEDNESDAY~ AUGUST 29:
The Council was reminded of the City employees' barbecue to
be held at the Municipal Park, Wednesday, August 29th at
6:00 P.M.
APPROVAL OF WARRANT:
On a motion_ by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman
SmalleY, it was unanimously carried General Warrant pay-
able to Petty Cash #3626 in the amount of $85.20 be approved
and ordered paid.
COUNCILMAN RUNKEL:
Mr. Runkel reported that street light should be replaced at
the corner of Spring and Perkins.
COUNCILMAN SMALLEY:
Councilman Smalley reported that he and City Manager Lyell
Cash attended a Lion's Club Meeting in Lake County August
21, 1962 where the City Manager delivered a very interesting
talk on the League of Calif. Cities.
ADJOURNMENT:
As there was no further re_gular business, Mayor Wagner declared
the meeting adjourned at ~:30 P.M.
