HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 02-27-63283 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH FEBRUARY 27, 1963 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M. wi th Mayor Wagner, Councilmen Runkel, Buxton and Banker present. Councilman Sma lley was absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On a motion by Councilman Buxton, seconded by Councilman RunkelL,'' it was unanimously carried the minutes of February 20, 1963 be approved as corrected. RES. 63-39 REVISING 1.962-63 APPROVED BUDGET: On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Runkel, it was unanimously carried Res. No. 63-39 be approved as read and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolution Revising 1962-63 Approved Budget" · SUMMARY OF LAWS RELATING TO FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION: Copies of a summary of laws relating to functions and duties of the Planning Commission were distributed by the City Attorney for review by the Council. REQUEST FOR DETERMINATION OF POLICY RE WATER SERVICE TO S.W. SECTION OF CITY: Due to new construction on South Dora, the City Manager pro- posed the Council consider construction of a 6" water line extending from Wabash Avenue and connecting to the Beacon Lane line to serve properties on the East side of Dora Street. Residents on the West side of Dora are served by Willow Water District. The cost of the new line is estimated to cost approximately $4,400. It was noted that construction is proposed on two parcels (Previously under the ownership of Peregrina) which were not included in the Southwest Improvement District due to protest by the owner. The City Manager was instructed to contact property owners on the East side of Dora to ascertain their willingness to share in the cost of constructing a new line to serve this area. AFFECT OF RAIL STRIKE ON DELIVERY OF PROPANE GAS: The City Manager reported receiving a communication from Shell Oil Company to the effect that should the rail strike material- ize it would necessitate delivery of propane gas by truck and trailer at an increased cost to the city of approximately 14%. All available storage facilities are being utilized to capacity at the present time. ANNUAL MAYOR'S GOOD WILL TOUR: The City Manager reported receiving an announcement that the Annual Mayor's Good Will Tour will begin June 13th from Honolulu and will include a month's tour around the world. COUNCILMAN RUNKEL: 1. Mr. Runkel inquired if a city permit is required for the operation of rest homes and was informed that it is not. They are licensed and operate under State agency regulations, how- ever, would be required to obtain a variance permit to operate outside of the required zone. Mr. Runkel also inquired as to progress regarding installat- ion of a signal at the Talmage Road-State Street intersection and the City Manager advised him that he has not received the results of the State survey. 3. He inquired if Mr. Morgan's family would receive retirement benefits and was informed that it would receive the amount contributed by Mr. Morgan.plus interest. 4. Mr. Runkel expressed the opinion that steps being constructed leading to the Airport Administration Building are wider than required and was informed that 16' steps were agreed upon by the Council at the last meeting.
