HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 04-17-63298 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH APRIL 17, 1963 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Runkel, Councilmen Wagner, Banker and Smalley present. Councilman Buxton was absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman Smalley, it" was unanimously carried the minutes of April 10, 1963 be approved as submitted by the Clerk. APPROVAL OF WARRANTS: On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Smalley, it was unanimously carried General Warrants in the amount of $72,718.99 be approved and ordered paid. On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman Banker, it 'was unanimously carried Payroll Warrants for the period April 1 to 15, 1963 be approved and ordered paid in the amount of $27,102.91. CLAIM FOR DAMAGES' BY CORAL WARDELL, 612 SO. Oak STREET: A claim for damages by Mrs. Coral Wardell, 612 So. Oak Streeet was reviewed by the City Attorney. Claimant alleges that on or about Jan.28, 1963 she suffered serious injuries when gas was permitted to escape at her residence, claiming damages in the amount of $150,OOO. On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Wagner, it was unanimously carried claim for damages by Mrs. Coral Wardell in the amount of $150,OO0 be denied. PROPOSED ORDINANCE ADOPTING LATEST EDITIONS OF UNIFORM CODES~ BLDG. ETC.: The Council was advised that the fee schedule now being used by the City is somewhat in excess of the fees set forth in' the Building Code. It was the recommendation of the Building Department that in the proposed ordinance the fee be establish- ed at the same rates as contained in the uniform codes. It was explained that this would avoid problems in computation as weli as equalizing the cost for construction permits between this city and other cities in the area. The Council informally instructed the City Attorney to make necessary corrections in the proposed ordinance to enact the uniform coes wit. h the fee schedules contained therein. JR. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SEAT BELT CLINIC - JUNE 1 & 2.. Mr. McKeehan,representing the .Ir. Chamber of Commerce, was recognized requesting permission to hold a seat belt clinic on Seminary Avenue between Oak and School Streets June 1st and 2nd between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. As an added feature they propose to have a sky-diving exhibition. Council approval was given the use of Seminary Avenue for the proposed seat belt clinic subject to proper clearance through the Police and Fire Departments, however, the advisability of a sky-diving exhibition in this vicinity was questioned with the suggestion it be held at the airport in conjunction with the June 2nd Fly-In. 299 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH APRIL 17, 1963 - Page 2. DEMOLITION PROGRAM - OLD SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT: The City Manager reported that the demolition program at the old sewage treatment plant is well underway and some salvage material will be removed by the contractor. REPORT ON SEWER RELOCATION PROJECT: It was reported that the sewer relocation project in connect- ion with freeway construction will involve the City and the Sanitation District.. By consolidating the specificationsthe two projects can be combined for one bid call. A special meeting of the Sanitation District will be held prior to the next Council meeting to obtain approval for consolidation of the two projects. APPROVAL GRANTED CATERERS FOR LICENSE APPLICATION IN CONNECTION WITH GOLF TOURNAMENT: On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman Smalley, it was unanimously carried the Mayor be authorized to sign application of Kelly & McElroy of the Samoa Club to sell alcoholic beverages at the Municipal Clubhouse in connection with the MenIs Golf Club Invitational Tournament April 20 and 21, 1963. BASEBALL CLINIC - JUNE 24.. A letter from the San Francisco Examiner was read to the effect that a baseball clinic will be held at Anton Stadium June 24, 1963. WATER WELL #2 OUT OF ORDER DUE TO BURNED OUT MOTOR: The Council was advised that Water well #2 is out of order due to a burned out motor on the pump and #3 well is now in operation. PROCLAMATION OF NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK - APRIL 21-27: Mayor'~unkel proclaimed the week of April 21 to 27, 1963 as National Library Week.
