HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 04-24-63MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH APRIL 24, 1963 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:OO P.M. wi th Mayor Runkel, Councilmen Wagner, Buxton and Smalley present. Councilman Banker was absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman SmalleY, it was unanimously carried the minutes of April 17, 1963 be approved as submitted by the Clerk. CONSENT JUDGMENTS - U.S.DISTRICT COURT RE FIRMS THAT MFG. & SUPPLY ELEC. EQUIP,: The City Attorney reported receiving a copy of Consent Judgments entered by the U.S. District Court regarding firms that manufacture and supply electrical-equipment and advised the Council should be on the alert for any evidence of price fixing by certain companies in future purchasing of this type equipment. AUTHORIZATION TO CALL FOR BIDS FOR SEWER SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS TO ACCOMMODATE NEW FREEWAY: The City Manager reported that a meeting of the Ukiah Valley Sanitation District was held on April 23, 1963 at which time Res. #142 was formally adopted authorizing the City of Ukiah to act as agent for the District in sewer relocation due to new freeway construction. It was further noted that consoli- dation of the bid call for this project meets with the approval of State and District engineers. On a motion by Councilman Buxton, seconded by Councilman Wagner, it was unanimously carried specifications be approved and the Clerk be authorized to call for bids for sewer system modi- fications to accommodate new freeway, bids to be opened at 2:00 P.M. May 14, 1963. REPORT ON DAMAGES TO MOTOR FOR WATER WELL #2: The Council was advised that in transporting the motor for Water Well #2 to Arcata for re-winding it fell of the truck and was damaged beyond repair. A new motor will be ordered and a claim submitted, with certain allowances, to the trans- port company involved. COUNCILMAN BANKER ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:20 P.M. VAR. APPLICATION #63-16-JOHN E. & MARGARET NELSON, 612 W. SMITH ST.: Zone Variance Application #63-16 by John E. & Margaret Nelson to permit erection of a service building and seven foot fence subsequent to installation of a swimming pool, accompanying plot plan, and minutes of the Planning Commission meeting of April 18, 1963 recommending granting of the variance, were reviewed by the City Manager. Mr. Nelson was present on behalf of the application and there were no written or verbal protests to the granting of the variance. On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it'"'~as unanimously carried the City Attorney be instruct- ed to prepare a resolution granting variance to John E. & Margaret Nelson as set forth in Variance Application #63-16 and accompanying plot plan for consideration at the next regular meeting. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH APR IL 24, 1963 PROPOSED RESOLUTION OPPOSING APPLICATION OF N.W.P.R.R. TO P.U.C. TO REDUCE SERVICE BETWEEN WlLLITS & EUREKA: The Council was advised that the Board of Supervisors formally adopted a resolution opposing application of N.W.P.R.R. before the Public Utilities Commission to reduce service between Willits and Eureka and the City has also been requested to take formal action on the matter. The Council concurred with the City Manager's recommendation that further information be obtained on this subject. APPROVAL OF WARRANT: On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried Special Warrant in the amount of $67.31 payable to petty cash be approved and ordered paid. COUNCILMAN BUXTON: Mr. Buxton inquired if plans are being made to honor all commissioners at a dinner and was informed that the City Manager would have a definite report to submit within two weeks.
