HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 06-26-63MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH JUNE 26, 1963 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:O0 P.M. wi th Mayor Runkel, Councilmen Buxton and Banker present. Councilmen Wagner and Smalley were absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On a motion it was unani approved as by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Buxton, mously carried the minutes of June 19, 1963 be submitted by the Clerk. APPROVAL OF WARRANTS: On a motion by Councilman Buxton, '~t was unanimously carried special $6,920.83 be approved and ordered seconded by Councilman Banker, warrants in the amount of paid. REPORT ON 1963 LEGISLATION: It was reported by the City Attorney that 1963 legislative sessions have adjourned but will probably be called into special session during the second week of July. COUNCILMAN SMALLEY ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:0/+ P.M. The following Bills of particular interest to the City of Ukiah have been passed and are on the Governor's desk awaiting signature; S.B. 344 - Gas Tax (Senator Collier) Several of the Annexation Bills and A.B. 1/+91 - Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax - may be enforced at discretion of cities. EXTENSION AGREEMENT FOR AUDITING SERVICES - FITZPATRICK & POULSEN: the On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried extension agreement for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1964, 1965, and 1966 with Fitzpatrick & Poulsen for auditing services be approved and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same. AWARD OF BID FOR 2 ELECTRIC CIRCUIT RECLOSERS - PHILLIPS & EDWARDS: Tabulation of bids received for 2 electric circuit reclosers was reviewed as follows: Phillips & Edwards Westinghouse Supply Co. On a motion by Councilman Buxton, seconded by Councilman Banker, it was unanimously carried bid for 2 electric circuit reclosers be awarded to Phillips & Edwards in the amount of $6,~+27.20, as recommended by the City Manager. AWARD OF BID FOR OUTDOOR 12 KV SUBSTATION STRUCTURE - LINE MATERIAL CO. REQUEST FOR WA! VER OF BUS I NESS L! CENSE FEE FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. SPONSORED CARNIVAL: On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Ba-nker, it was unanimously carried the license fee be waived for the presentation of a carnival at the 12th District Fairgrounds on June 28, 29 and 30, sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Department. WRITE-OFF OF UNCOLLECTIBLE DEBTS - ~2,650.55: On a motion by Councilman Buxton, seconded by Councilman Banker, i"t was unanimously carried the Director of Finance be author- ized to write off uncollectible utility accounts in the amount of $2,650.55. COUNCILMAN BUXTON: Councilman Buxton suggested a determination be made as to the feasibility of two evening Council meetings per month rather than scheduled weekly meetings as specified by ordinance. It was agreed this matter be given further thought prior to the City Attorney devoting time to the preparation of a proposed amendment to the ordinance. COUNCILMAN BANKER: Councilman Banker inquired as to the status of the Zoning Ord- inance and was informed the Planning Commission has taken action referring this ordinance to the City Council and the matter will probably be placed on the agenda within the next two weeks. NORTHERN CALIF. ALL-STAR TRYOUTS: The City Manager was instructed to direct a letter to the San Francisco Baseball School expressing endorsement by the Council of the Northern California A11-Star Team baseball tryouts pro- posed to be held in Ukiah in the Spring of 1964. ADJOURNMENT: As there was no further r_egular business, Mayor Runkel declared the meeting adjourned at 8:50 P.M., the Council to re-convene in adjourned session at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, June 28, 1963.
