JULY 24, 1963
The City Council convened in regular session in the Council
Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Runkel, Councilmen Buxton,
Banker and Sma! ley present. Councilman Wagner was absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman S~alley,
it was unanimously carried the minutes of July 17, 1963 be
approved as submitted by the clerk.
COUNCILMAN WAGNER ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:02 P.M.
RES. NO. 64-5 EXTENDING VARIANCE
NO. 63-1 F.C. PRITCHARD 1349 SO. DORA:
On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Wagner,
it was unanimously carried Resolution No. 64-5 be adopted and
the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolution
Extending Variance No. 63-1" for the construction and conduct
of a nursing home on property located at 1349 So. Dora St.
RES. NO. 64-6 GRANTING VARIANCE TO
FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST SCIENTIST, 204 S. OAK:
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Smalley,
it was unanimously carried Resolution No. 64-6 be adopted and
the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same "Resolution
Granting Variance to First Church of Christ Scientist" to
permit elimination of rear and west sideyard requi rements for
purpose of construction of Sunday School Building at property
line at 204 S. Oak St.
REPORT ON CASE OF FONES VS.
LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES:
The City Attorney reported that an Order for Judgment has been
signed in the case of Fones vs. Library Board of Trustees and
the Judge has sustained the City's position that due to the
fact that George Fones is past the City's mandatory retirement
age he need not be rehired, however, he wi 11 receive back
salary amounting approximately to $855.00. Mr. Fones now has
a new attorney and there may be appeals or further action in
thi s case.

placed upon the property owners to become a dedicated
t and the City Manager recommended it be accepted as same.
On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Banker,
it was unanimously carried the City Manager be authorized to
accept deeds properly executed by property owners on Berkeley 'day
for grant and dedication for public use for street purposes and
the same be recorded in the office of the Mendocino County
Recorder.
WABASH AVENUE WATER MAIN REQUIREMENTS
WEST OF DORA STREET APPROVED:
The engineer's drawings showing proposed water line on Wabash
Avenue west of Dora were reviewed. Larkin Younce, subdivider
of Oak Knoll Terrace Subdivision was present offering to share
in the cost of approximately 250 feet of the line.
On a motion by Councilman Buxton, seconded by Councilman Banker,
it was unanimously carried the City participate wi th Larkin Younce
in extendin9 a 6" water main from South Dora westerly on Wabash

Avenue, a distance of approximately 505 feet, the City

APPROVAL OF FINAL MAP OF OAK KNOLL
TERRACE SUBDIVISION UNIT NO. t:
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Smatley,
it was unanimously carried the final map of Oak Knoll Terrace
Subdivision Unit No. 1 be approved and the streets and easements
shown thereon be accepted for public use.
AGREEMENT APPROVED FOR GI ORNO PARK
CONCESSION - M. EDWARDS & M. COOPER:
On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman Buxton,
it was unanimously carried agreement wi th Marie Edwards and
Martha Cooper be approved for the operation of a concession at
Giorno Park for the period of one year from July 2/+, 1963 to and
including July 2/+, 1964. and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to
s i 9n same.
REQUEST BY LARRY BALDWIN FOR ABANDONMENT
OF CUL DE SAC END OF MILL STREET:
A letter dated July 19, 1963 from Larry Baldwin was read request-
ing the City institute proceedings to abandon cul de sac at the
end of Mil! Street. The Council concurred wi th the City Manager's
recommendation that the City require that division of the ak_andon-
ed parcel be agreed upon by all parties concerned before any action
is taken in the matter.
