REPOR
ACTIO
REDIS
T ON BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
N REGARDING SUPERVISORIAL
TRI CTI NG
The City Manager reported that from the discussion with the
Board of Supervisors regarding supervisorial redistricting,
it appears that even though a special meeting has been scheduled'
for January 3, 1964, the definite positions established by
Supervisors Hartley and Sqwyers against redistricting precludes
the possibility of any action being taken unless a change of
position occurs. It was pointed out that several incorrect
statements and inferences had been made by individual members
of the Boa rd in regard to the City's position and interest in
the project, but in each case clarifying answers had been given
to the Board.
The Council stated its disappointment because of !ack of'action
by the Board of Supervisors and reaffirmed their position of
doing everything possible to convince the Board of the need for
action in redistricting to furnish voting equality for all
Mendocino County residents.
In reply to questions from the Council, the City Attorney explained
that suit to force the matter cannot be fi led by the City but
only by individuals or groups of individuals as private citizens.
