HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 03-11-64MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH MAR CH 11, 1964 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Runkel, Councilmen Wagner, Buxton, Banker and Smalley present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried the minutes of March 4, 1964 be approved as submitted by the Clerk. RES. NO. 64-38 ESTABLISHING CONSOLIDATED VOTING PRECINCTS, FIXING POLLING PLACES AND HOURS POLLS WILL BE OPEN On a motion by Councilman Wagner, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried Resolution No. 64-38 be approved and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, Resolution Establishing Consolidated Voting Precincts For General Municipal Election, Consisting of Regular and Consolidated Voting Precincts, and Fixing Polling Places Therefor and Hours Polls Will Be Open." RES. NO. 64-39 APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICERS AND FIXING COMPENSATION THEREOF On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Buxton, i"t was unanimously carried Resolution No. 64-39 be approved and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, "Resolution Appointing Election Officers and Fixing Compensation Thereof.'l ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE NO. 552 NEW ZONING ORDINANCE On a motion by Councilman Buxton, seconded by Councilman Banker, it was carried by the following roll call vote that Ordinance No. 552 be adopted and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, "Adoption of Division 9 - 'Planning and Development' of Ukiah City Code; Enactment of Ch. 2 of Div. 9 Entitled 'Zoning'; Repealer of Ordinances Nos. 536, 526, 523, 505, 493,449, 434, 429 And All Conflicting Ordinances." AYES: Councilmen Wagner, Buxton, Banker, Smalley and Mayor Runkel. NOES: None. ABSENT: None. DANIEL H. HAMMAN CLAIM FOR DAMAGES DENIED The City Attorney reviewed a claim for damages filed on March 5, 1964 by Daniel H. Hamman for injuries sustained when a heavy wooden and plaster marquee fell from a buil- ding at 656 So. State Street after being struck by a truck. The Council was advised that the accident occurred within the State Street right of way. On a motion by Councilman Smalley, seconded by Councilman Buxton, it was unanimously carried the claim of Daniel H. VOLUNTEER FIREMENS' ASSOCIATION WITHDRAW REQUEST FOR WAIVER OF BUSINESS LICENSE FEE The City Manager reported that he had been advised by the Volunteer Firemens' Association that their request for waiver of the business license fee had been withdrawn on the basis of the discussion of the Council with Mr. Rains, the Associa- tion's representative, at the time the request was presented, and that a budget request for the 1964-65 fiscal year would be forthcoming. CITY RECEIVED CREDIT OF $13,443.43 FROM PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY The Council was advised that a credit had been received on the current month's P.G. & E. billing in the amount of $13,443.43 and that a combined total of approximately an additional $100 had also been credited on other direct P.G. & E. billings to the City. This was the result of a Public Utilities Commission order connected with an overcharge to P.G. & E. for natural gas used in generation of power. It was pointed out that the cost of refunding to individual customers would off-set any customer benefit since the amount to be refunded would be less than $4.00 per customer and that the public interest would be best served by receiving the total amount into the electric fund for allocation in the coming budget. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH MARCH 11, 1964 - PAGE 3 NOR TH BAY DIVISION LEAGUE MEETING AT SUISUN-FAIRFIELD The Council was advised that the next meeting of the North Bay Division of the League of California Cities will be held April 25th and will be hosted jointly by the cities of Fairfield and Suisun. ADJOURNMENT As there was no further regular business, Mayor Runkel declared the meeting adjourned at 8:57 P.M., after which the Council reconvened in closed personnel session.
