MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH
MARCH 25, 1~64.
The City Council convened in regular session in the Council
Chambers at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Runkel, Councilmen Wagner,
Buxton and Banker present. Councilman Smalley was absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
On a motion by Councilman Banker, seconded by Councilman Wagner,
it was unanimously carried the minutes of Hatch 18, 1964 be
approved as submitted by the Clerk.
APPROVAL OF SPECIAL WARRANTS
On a mot ion by Councilman Wagne r, seconded by Councilman Banker
it was unanimously carried Special warrants in the amount of
$2,297.42 be approved and ordered paid.
COMPLAINT FOR PERSONAL INJURIES
SERVED - DANIEL H. HAMMAN
The City Attorney reported that the City had been served today
with a Summons and Complaint for personal injuries in the matter of
Daniel H. Hamman vs. Bernard Gene Moore, et al, which will be
referred to the City's insurance carrier for defense.
COUNCILMAN SMALLEY ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:04 P.M.
ANALYSIS OF THE ECONOMICS OF CITY
MUNICIPAL GAS SYSTEM.
Copies of a report on the "Analysis of the Economics of the City
of Ukiah Municipal Gas System, March 1964" were distributed to each
member of the Council and read in full by the City Manager. Mr.
Cash elaborated on the contents of the report which established
the following main points:
1. The result of the increased liability insurance
costs on the financial condition of the system.
2. The benefits realized by the City in general and gas
system customers in particular from City ownership
of the system.
3. The corrective steps which can be taken to improve the
operation of the system.
After discussion, it was generally agreed that every effort
should be made to obtain the answers to particular problems
pointed out in the report and that a selling program should be
initiated in an attempt to gain new customers for the gas system.
REPRESENTATIVES OF P.G. & E. TO
MEET WI TH CITY RE. NATURAL GAS
The City Manager reported receiving a letter of reply from E. S.
Day, Division Manager of P.G. & E. relative to the scheduling of
a suggested meeting of representatives of City and P.G. & E.
to discuss the feasibility of bringing natural gas to the area
indicating that a date will be established in the near future.
REPORT ON STATUS OF ALLEY NORTH
OF CLARA AVE. AT RAILROAD CROSSING
The Council was advised that the Engineering Department has found
that a right of way has apparently existed since before 1900
crossing the railroad north of and parallel to Clara Avenue. As
far as can be determined the thoroughfare has never been opened
for public use; however, the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Co.
will' be i~ontacted-in this regard upon verification of the existence
of the right of way.

ALLEY SOUTH OF CLARA AVE.
REPORTEDLY CLOSED
Councilman Buxton reported that the alley south of a parallel
to Clara Avenue appears to be closed. The Director of Public
Works agreed to investigate this report.
ADJOURNMENT
As there was no further regular business, Mayor Runkel declared
the meeting adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
