HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 08-19-64MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH AUGUST 19, 1964 The City Council convened in regular session in the Council Chambers at 8:03 P.M. with Mayor Banker, Councilman Norgard and Scotto present. Councilmen Buxton and Smalley were absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Councilman Scotto, seconded by Councilman Scotto, it was unanimously carried minutes of the meeting of August 12, 1964, be approved as submitted by the Clerk. PAYROLL WARRANTS On a motion by Councilman Norgard, seconded by Councilman Scotto, it was unanimously carried payroll~warrants for the period of August 1st through August 15th, 1964, be approved in the amount of $35,545.00. GENERAL WARRANTS On a motion by Councilman Scotto, seconded by Councilman Norgard, it was unanimously carried general warrants in the amount of $68,999.40 be approved and ordered paid. NO. BAY COOPERATIVE LIBRARY SYSTEM STATUS OF INSURANCE COVERAGE The City Attorney reported that the North Bay Cooperative Library System had called for bids on insurance for their activities in the limits of $300/500,000 for bodily injury and $25,000 property damage. GREYHOUND LINES, INC. APPLICATION TO PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION FOR RATE INCREASE The City Attorney reported a notice of hearing on application for rate increase had been received from the Greyhound Lines, Inc. This hearing is scheduled for September 21, 1964. COUNCILMAN SMALLEY ARRIVED AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:09 AUTHORIZATION TO CALL FOR BIDS FOR 1965 MODEL POLICE CARS The City Mana. ger pro tempore, A. S. Kruth, distributed specifica- tions for 1965 model police cars to the Council for approval. On a motion by Councilman Scotto, seconded by Councilman Norgard, it was unanimously carried the Clerk be authorized to call for bids for purchase of 1965 model police cars as per specifications, bids to be opened at 2:00 P.M. September l, 1964. LICENSING OF CARNIVAL FOR 12TH DISTRICT FAIR The City Manager pro tempore stated the $400 business license fee had been paid by the Craft 20 Big Shows, Inc., and the Police clearance had also been received. On a motion by Councilman Norgard, seconded by Councilman Smalley, ~ it was unanimously carried the City Council grant a business license to the Craft 20 Big Shows, Inc., to permit a carnival at the 12th District Fairgrounds, August 21, 22, and 23, 1964, and the Mayor and Deputy Clerk be authorized to sign same. G. & E. dated August 12, 1964, indicating the work in- volved in securing the release from the lien and operation of the mortgage has commenced and the estimate of its completion will be on or about September 15, 1964. CORRESPONDENCE - ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY The City. Manager pro tempore reported that an acknowledgement of expression of sympathy had been received from the family of Chief Bechtol. QUARTERLY ADVANCE ON SALES TAX The City Manager pro tempore reported that the Quarterly Advance on the sales tax had been received in the amount of $56,000- This is approximately $11,000 more than the sum for the same quarter 1 asr year. CITY MANAGER ON VACATION City Manager pro tempore reported the City Manager is vacationing in the Sierras. DEDICATION OF WlLLITS AIRPORT Mayor Banker reported that an invitation has been extended to members of the Council to attend the dedication of the new Wi 11 its airport on September 12th and 13th. COUNCILMAN SCOTTO Councilman Scotto read an ad from page 3 of the August 14, 1964, Ukiah Daily Journal, regarding the announcement of a schedule of church services to be conducted at the Ukiah Community Church at 1164 Helen Avenue. The City Attorney indicated he was not aware of the ad having been published in the paper, but that he would make the necessary investigation. COUNCILMAN SMALLEY Councilman Smalley stated he had been watching the work on Oak Street and indicated that it was progressing nicely. COUNCILMAN NORGARD Councilman Norgard expressed his appreciation and thanks to the City for their presentation of the Council's Identification Badge and Card.
