HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin 04-16-68MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH APRIL 16, ]968 The City Council of the City of Ukiah convened in regular session as required by law, to canvass the ballots cast at the General Municipal Election held on April 9, 1968. The meeting was called to order at 8:04 P.M. in the Council Chambers with Mayor Norgard, Councilmen Scotto, Crook, and Henderson present. Councilman Harlowe was absent. CANVASS OF VOTES The Results of Votes Cast at the five consolidated precincts were checked by the Council and all were found to be correct. RESOLUTION NO. 68-40 "DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION" On a motion by Councilman Scotto, seconded by Councilman Crook, it was unanimously carried Resolution No. 68-40 be adopted and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same. RESOLUTION NO. 68-40 DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION WHEREAS, it appears that Notice of Election was duly and legally given, that voting precincts were properly established, and that in all respects said election received and canvassed, and the returns thereof made, determined, and declared in time, form and manner as required by the laws of the State of California providing for and regulating Municipal Elections in cities of the General Law Class, and WHEREAS, the City Council of said City of Ukiah met in the Council Chambers thereof on Tuesday, the 16th day of April, 1968 to canvass returns of said election and install the newly elected officers, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds as a result of said canvass, the number of votes cast, the names of the persons voted for, and other matters as required by law to be as hereinafter stated, NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved, determined and declared as fol lows: That said General Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of Ukiah on Tuesday, April ~, 19~8, in time, form and manner prescribed by law; That there were five (5) voting precincts establisned in said City for the purpose of holding said election and that said pre- cincts are described in the Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorpo- rated herein by reference. That the matters enumerated in Section 22933 of the Elections Code are contained in the State of Election which statement is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. RESOLVED THEREFORE, that at said General Municipal Election held in the City of Ukiah, April 9, 1968 the following persons were elected to the following offices respectively: CYRIL A. HILL was elected a member of the City Council for the full term of four years from and after April 16, 1968 and until his successor is elected and qualified. STERLING NORGARD was elected a member of the City Council for the full term of four years from and after April 16, 968 and until his successor is elected and qualified. SCOTTO was elected a member of the City Council for the full term of four years from and after April 16,i968 and until his successor is elected and qualified. HATTIE M. TILLOTSON was elected as of four years from and after April 16, is elected and qualified. City Clerk for the full te~m 1968 and until her successor PIETER D. MASTENBROEK was elected Treasurer for the full term of four years from and after April 16, 1968 and until his successor is elected and qualified. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of April, 1968. Scotto, were given the Constitutional Oath of Office by the Clerk and presented with official Certificates of Election. The newly elected City Clerk, Hattie M. Tillotson, was given the Constitutional Oath of Office by the Mayor and presented with official Certificates of Election. The newly elected Treasurer, Pieter D. Mastenbroek, was not present but will be given the Constitutional Oath of Office by the Clerk at a later date. THE MAYOR DECLARED A RECESS AT THIS POINT IN THE MEETING - 8:19 P.M. RESOLUTION NO. 68-41 COMMENDING MEREDI TH "BUZZ'l HARLOWE On a motion by Councilman Crook, seconded by Councilman Scotto, it was carried by the following roll call vote Resolution No. 68-41 be adopted and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, "Resolution Of Commendation To Meredith "Buzz" Harlowe'l. AYES: Councilmen Scotto, Crook, Henderson, Hill, and Mayor Norgard. NOES: None. ABSENT: None. ELECT ION OF MAYOR On a motion by Councilman Crook, seconded by Councilman Hill, it was unanimOusly carried Councilman Scotto be elected Mayor of the City of Ukiah and Councilman Henderson elected Mayor pro tempore. APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO SANITATION DISTRICT BOARD AND LOCAL AGENCY FORMATION COMMI SS ION Mayor Scotto appointed Councilman Norgard as a representative of the City to the Sanitation District Board and Councilman Hill as a representative to the Local Agency Formation Commission; each appointment to be ratified. ADJOURNMENT As there was no further regular business Mayor Scotto declared the meeting adjourned at 8:42 P.M. 'C-ITY CLERK - - -- '
