HomeMy WebLinkAboutmin 1974-03-12 O MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH MARCH 12, 1974 - PAGE 1 The City Council of the City of Ukian convened as required by law and in special session to canvass the ballots cast at the General Municipal Election held on March 5, 1974 and to consider a resolution to file application under the Disaster Relief Act, respectively. The meeting was called to order at 8 : 00 p.m. in the Council Chambers with Councilman Weinkauf, Norgard, Pearson, and Mayor Simpson present. Councilman Buxton was absent. CANVASS OF VOTES The results of votes cast at the seven precincts supplied by the Mendocino County Clerk were reviewed. RESOLUTION NO. 74-42 DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION On a motion by Councilman Norgard, seconded by Councilman Weinkauf it was unanimously carried Resolution No. 74-42 be adopted and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, "Declaring Results Of Election" . DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION WHEREAS, it appears that Notice of Election was duly and legally given, that voting precincts were properly established, and that in all respects said election rec ived and canvassed, and the returns thereof made, determined, and declared in time, form and manner as required by the laws of the State of California pro- viding for and regulating Municipal Elections in cities of the General Law Class, and WHEREAS, the City Council of said City of Ukiah met in the Council Chambers thereof on Tuesday, the 12th day of March, 1974, to canvass returns of said election and install the newly elected officers, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds as a result of said canvass, the number of votes cast, the names of the persons voted for, and other matters as required by law to be as hereinafter stated, NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved, determined and declared as follows: That said General Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of Ukiah on Tuesday, March 5, 1974, in time, form and manner prescribed by law; That there were seven (7) voting precincts established in said City for the purpose of holding said election and that said precincts are described in the Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. That the matters enumerated in Section 22933 of the Elections Code are contained in the Statement of Election which statement is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. RESOLVED THEREFORE, that at said General Municipal Election held in the City of Ukiah, March 5, 1974 the following persons were elected to the following office respectively: LORRAINE C. PEARSON was elected a member of the City Council for the full term of four years from and after March 12, 1974, and until her successor is elected and qualified. BARRY C. ELECTION OF MAYOR AND MAYOR PRO TEMPORE _ g Members of the Council retired to an adjoining office in closed personnel session for the purpose of election of a Mayor and Mayor pro tempore. Upon their return Mayor Simpson stated he has been impressed with the ability and desire of the Council to meet head-on with the problems as they/88lys up. He expressed his appreciation to the Council for its support and wished Mr. Buxton the very best for a speedy recovery. It was reported that Councilman Pearson has been elected Mayor and Councilman Weinkauf has been elected Mayor pro tempore. RESOLUTION NO. 74-43 AUTHORIZING CITY MANAGER TO FILE APPLICATIONi UNDER DISASTER RELIEF ACT On a motion by Councilman Norgard, seconded by Councilman Wood it was unanimously carried to adopt Resolution No. 74-43 and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same, "Resolution authorizing City Manager To File Application Under The Disaster Reli--f Act (Public Law 606, 91st Congress) " . COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS Mayor Pearson announced the following committee appointments which had been made by the Council: City Selection Committee - Councilman Simpson Alternate - Councilman Norgard Local Agency Formation Commission - Councilman Simpson Mendocino City-County Planning Commission - Councilman Simpson Transportation Planning Agency - Councilman Simpson Ukiah Valley Sanitation District - Councilman Simpson Northern California Power Agency - Councilman Norgard Alternate - City Manager Jim Swayne City and County Chambers of Commerce - Mayor Pearson League Committees - Mayor Pearson ADJOURNMENT Mayor Pearson adjourned the meeting at 8: 27 p.m. Mayor ATTEST: .yam City Clerk
