HomeMy WebLinkAboutmin 06-12-84O7 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH SPECIAL MEETING June 12, 1984 The City Council of the City of Ukiah convened in Special Session at 9:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers to adopt Resolution No. 84-69 certifying election results and to install the newly elected Mayor and Councilmembers. Roll was taken and the following Councilmembers were present: Feibusch, Dickens, Myers and Mayor Kelley. Absent: Councilmember Hickey. The City Attorney reported this is the meeting, required by law, for certifying election results and installing new officers. The City Council is supposed to canvass the election results at an open and public meeting. He reviewed Resolution 84-69 and recommended adoption by the Council. M/S: Dickens/Myers to adopt Resolution 84-69, carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmembers Feibusch, Dickens, Myers and Mayor Kelley. NOES: None ABSENT: Councilmember Hickey INSTALLATION OF MAYOR Mayor Kelley gave a brief report of the City's progress during the past year. He expressed his thanks to the Council and staff for their cooperation. He stated one person cannot do the job alone, that it must be a team effort. He reflected back on giving the keys to the City to Mickey Mouse as one of the highlights of his term. He is looking forward to the next two years as a Councilmember, working with the new members who have been elected and believes the City will benefit by the results. Charley Myers, was given the Constitutional Oath of Office by the Deputy City Clerk. Mayor Myers accepted the gavel and took the chair as the first elected mayor in the history of the City of Ukiah. INSTALLATION OF COUNCILMEMBERS The two newly elected Councilmembers, Colleen Buxton Henderson and Larry Kier were given the Constitutional Oath of Office by the Deputy City Clerk. Both Councilmembers made statements of appreciation and stated goals. MAYOR MYERS Mayor Myers recognized Mike Kelley as doing an outstanding job as Mayor of Ukiah. He recognized outgoing Councilmembers Ted Feibusch and Marilyn Dickens as causing people to think, always being prepared and being independent. He recognized his wife and family as his number one supporters, and numerous other people who have given him support and expressed his appreciation for that support. He explained several of his goals for the next two years. Two of his top priorities will be for the Council to become a team, and the construction of a new City Hall. He stated Ukiah has been good to him, and he is pleased and proud to be the first elected Mayor to the City of Ukiah. Councilmember Dickens Outgoing Councilmember Dickens stated she has enjoyed being a part of the City Council. She admires the newly elected Councilmembers and feels they are well qualified. She feels that Charley Myers will do a great job as Mayor for the City of Ukiah.
