MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF UKIAH - APRIL 17, 1989
The City Council convened in a regular adjourned meeting at 10:06 a.m. in the
Council Chambers at the Civic Center, 300 Seminary Avenue, Ukiah, California.
Roll was taken and the following Councilmembers were present: Wattenburger,
Shoemaker, Schneiter, Hickey, and Mayor Henderson. Staff present was City
Attorney Rapport and City Clerk McKay.
2. Interview of consultants for search of a new City Manager.
The Council interviewed Sheryl Lindquist of Personnel Associates until
10:58 a.m.
Break 10:58 a.m.
Reconvened 11:01 a.m.
The Council interviewed Bob Murray of Ralph Anderson and Associates until
11:58 a.m.
Break for lunch 11:58 a.m.
Reconvened 1:08 p.m.
The Council interviewed Rich Perry of Hughes, Heiss and Associates until
2:08 p.m.
It was the general consensus of Council for Councilmember Hickey and the City
Attorney to make phone calls to check the references of the previously
interviewed consultants.
M/S Shoemaker/Wattenburger to add an agenda item for the regular meeting of
April 19, 1989 regarding discussion and selection of the consultant firm for
recruitment of City Manager. The motion was carried by the following roll
call vote: AYES: Councilmembers Wattenburger, Shoemaker, Schneiter, Hickey,
and Mayor Henderson. NOES: None.
Council requested the City Clerk to notify Sheryl Lindquist and Bob Murray that
the decision of the Council will not be made today but at the meeting of
April 19, 1989.
M/S Shoemaker/Wattenburger to add an item to this agenda of; Discussion of
date for interviewing interim City Manager applicants. AYES: Councilmembers
Wattenburger, Shoemaker, Schneiter, Hickey, and Mayor Henderson. NOES: None.
The Council discussed dates and available times of each Councilmember.
It was the general consensus of Council to meet on April 27, 1989 at
8:30 a.m., for interviewing interim City Manager applicants referred by Public
Service Skills, Inc.
The Council requested the City Attorney to research how and what money will be
needed to fund the interim City Manager salary and expenses and also the
search firm fees.
Councilmember Schneiter noted receipt of a letter from Sharon Kiischlii on
Saturday regarding funding for drug abuse education of $25,000 of which the
application is due this week and feels this item needs emergency action.
M/S Schneiter/Hickey to consider this grant to partially provide funds to the
Ukiah Police Department for DARE instruction at the regular meeting of
April 19, 1989 under New Business. The motion was carried by the following
roll call vote: AYES: Councilmembers Wattenburger, Shoemaker, Schneiter,
Hickey, and Mayor Henderson. NOES: None.
