RESOLUTION NO. 92-62
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF UKIAH EXPRESSION SUPPORT OF THE
MENDOCINO CENTER FOR THE CALIFORNIA CONSERVATION CORPS, AND
OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED CUTBACKS IN STATE FUNDING FOR
THE CALIFORNIA CONSERVATION CORPS
WHEREAS, Ukiah could lose its California Conservation Corps Center by
3uly 31 if a 50% budget cut proposed by the State Resources Agency goes
into effect during Fiscal Year 1992-93; and
WHEREAS, the Mendocino Center in Ukiah serves Mendocino, Lake, Napa,
Sonoma, Solano and Marin Counties; employs over 100 individuals; and has a
budget of over $1 million; and
WHEREAS, the California Conservation Corps Center in Mendocino serves
over 200 youths aged 18 to 24, many of them underprivileged and
unemployed, and provides a positive work experience that will assist them
later in life; and
WHEREAS, the California Conservation Corps Mendocino Center has
become a valued part of our area since it first opened in 1985, and many
public agencies including schools, counties, and cities rely upon the
Mendocino Center to perform conservation work that would otherwise not be
done; and
WHEREAS, this proposed cutback of the statewide program comes at the
very moment when this valuable productive, effective, and efficient
program should be expanded as a healthy alternative for many of the youth
in our urban cities and rural communities.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Ukiah supports the California Conservation Corps Mendocino Center and
opposes State proposed cutbacks of this highly beneficial and essential
program.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of May, 1992, by the following roll
call vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Wattenburger, Shoemaker,Schneiter and
Mayor Henderson
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmember McMichael
ABSTAIN: None
