HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-43 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 15 16 17 18 19 21 25 RESOLUTION NO. 92-43 ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR LIBRARY TAX WHEREAS, the City of Ukiah City Council believes that libraries are an essential factor in the quality of life in our Community; and WHEREAS, libraries provide a resource to the community for children, adults and seniors alike; and WHEREAS, libraries and the information that they contain foster, encourage and enhance cultural, educational and economic development within our community; and WHEREAS, Mendocino County is responsible for and supports the library system through the County General Fund, which is currently in a deficit condition, and therefore, the County has drastically lowered the financial support to the library system which has reduced staffing, hours of operation, and essential programs; and WHEREAS, the loss of these services is having a detrimental effect on our Community; and WHEREAS, a ballot measure is being proposed which would establish a County Library District and public library special tax within the incorporated and unincorporated areas of the County; and WHEREAS, the special tax would be a maximum of $24.00 per property owner in Fiscal Year 1992, increasing to a maximum of $30.00 per owner in Fiscal Year 1998. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Ukiah publically supports the Mendocino County Library District and 26 III 27 III 28 /// 1 5 6 ? 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 23 25 26 25 approval of a measure for a County-wide public library special tax to be on the ballot for the State wide primary election on June 2, 1992.
