HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Reso 2019-21 - Adoption of Master Plan and Environmental Assessment for Lake Mendo & Coyote Dam1 1 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2019-21 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH SUPPORTING THE ADOPTION OF THE MASTER PLAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR LAKE MENDOCINO AND COYOTE VALLEY DAM AND URGING FEDERAL SUPPORT AND ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES WHEREAS, the City Council, on October 4, 2017, authorized a letter to Congressman Huffman and the United States Army Corps of Engineers expressing concern regarding the reduction of services and the threat of recreational closures at Lake Mendocino; and WHEREAS, Lake Mendocino is a valuable recreational and economic resource for our community; and WHEREAS, the Draft Lake Mendocino Master Plan (Master Plan) Revised 2019 provides the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) a vision and direction to manage Lake Mendocino and its resources; and WHEREAS, this revision to the 1977 Master Plan and the associated Environmental Assessment (EA) describe the existing conditions at Lake Mendocino and identify recreational opportunities and measures to preserve and protect natural and cultural resources; and WHEREAS, the Master Plan makes recommendations for future improvements to Lake Mendocino's facilities based on the land use classifications. It provides guidance to balance recreation opportunities, flood risk management, and the preservation of natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. WHEREAS, no funding mechanism is identified with which to implement the improvements recommended in the Master Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, the City of Ukiah supports the Master Plan and Environmental Assessment for Lake Mendocino and Coyote Valley Dam and urges the Federal Government to identify and allocate resources to support the implementation of this Plan.
