RESOLUTION NO. 82-43
RESOLUTION OF THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING
THE RATIFICATION OF THE EQUAL RIGHT AMENDMENT
WHEREAS, as locally elected officials, we are in support of the
proposed Twenty-seventh Amendment to the United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the Equal Rights Amendment represents a basic human rights
declaration which promises security from sexual discrimination under
federal law; and
WHEREAS, many state statutes are contradictory and ineffective in
rendering fairness toward males and females; and
WHEREAS,many civil rights laws in the United States are temporary
in nature and may be revoked at any time; and
WHEREAS, some people in America have consistently and historically
been the victims of discrimination in the political, social,
occupational, financial, military, educational and criminal justice
systems.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Ukiah City Council do
hereby support a halt to inequality of rights under the law on account
of sex. We call upon our unratified sister states to pass the ERA. We
urge President Ronald Regan to advocate the passage of this Amendment to
pursue their lives emancipated from restraints of sex-biases under the
law of the land.
