RESOLUTION OF TI-E CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF UKIAH DECLARING CERTAIN STRUCTURES TO
BE DANGEROUS BUILDINGS AND A PUBLIC NUISANCE
~REAS, the structures situated on that property commonly known as the
"Haikukiah Property' located at 367 North State Street which extends from the
east side of North State Street to the west side of North ~in Street in the
City of Ukiah and is identified by the ~.4endocino County Assessor's Office as
A.P. #2-186-12 and 2-186-16 and is described by i~ndocino County Records as a
portion of Block 6 of original City of Ukiah as recorded August 25, 1899 in
Deed Book 1, page 72 and further described in Book 1242, page 217 of Mendocino
County Records as:
Parcel One:
Commencing at a point on the East side of State Street, 100 feet North of the
Northeast corner of State and Smith Streets (that is, the Northeast corner
formed by the intersection of said two streets) in Block 6 of said town;
thence running Easterly and parallel with Smith Street and along the Norther-
ly line of the lands formerly belonging to ~s, 5~ryDowling and the lands of
George Whitehorn, 200 feet, more or less, to the west line of Main Street;
thence Northerly along the Westerly line of said Main Street to the Northeast
corner of the lot of land conveyed by J. ~{. Costigan to J. H. Smith and
H.B. smith, by deed dated February 7, 1902, recorded in the office of the
County Recorder of the County of ~,{endocino in Book 85 of Deeds, Page 247;
thence Westerly and along the North line of the land conveyed to J. H. and
H. B. Smith by J. M. Costigan as above mentioned to the Northwest corner
thereof, a distance of 60 feet, more or less; thence Northerly and along
the Westerly line of lands former~belongingto~rs. Fannie Curtis, 4 feet,
more or less, to the Northeast corner of the land conveyed by 1~. 5{. Peer7 to
J. }t and H. B. ~nith, by deed dated September 25, 1905, recorded in said

Recorders Office in Book 100 of Deeds, Page 436; thence Westerly and along the
Southerly line of the iand formerly belonging to T. J. Weldon and W.D.L. Held,
a distance of 140 feet, more or less, to the EaSt line of State Street and to
a point 50 feet Northerly of the place of beginning; thence Southerly along
the Easterly line of said State Street to the place of beginning.
Parcel Two'
Commencing at an iron pin "~' at the Southeast corner of the intersection of
State Street and Henry Street, if extended; thence Easterly along the South
line of extension of Henry Street 122 feet; thence Southerly 49.38 feet to an
iron pin "I", the place of beginning (said place of beginning being the
Northeast corner of that certain lot of land conveyed to J. H. and H. B. Smith
by W. M. Peery, by deed dated September 25, 1905, recorded in the office of
the County Recorder of the said County of Mendocino in liber 100 of Deeds,
Page 436); thence on the exterior boundaries of such parcel of land to be
described Southerly 2.10feet to an iron pin "~', being the Northwest corner
of that certain tract of land conveyed to said J. H. and H. B. Smith by
J. M. Costigan, by deeded dated February 7, 1902, recorded in said Recorder's
Office in Book 85 of Deeds, Page 247; thence Easterly along the Northerly
line of the land conveyed by the said J. M. Costigan 62.40 feet, more or less,
to an iron pin "G" standing on the West line of ~in Street; thence Northerly
along the west line of said Main Street 2.10 feet, more or less, to a point
49.38 feet South of the South line of Henry Street, if extended; thence
Westerly to said iron pin "I", the place of beginning.

Beginning at an iron pin designated "J" as shown on map or plat of a portion
of Block 6 in said Town of Ukiah City, made by R.E. Donohoe and recorded
~rch 6, 1908 in the office of the County Recorder of said Mendocino County
in Book 2 of Maps and Surveys, Page 2, Mendocino County Records; thence

Southerly along the East line of State Street 50.10 feet; thence Easterly
and parallel with the North line of Smith Street 192.83 feet, more or less,
to the ~,Vesterly line of Main Street; thence Northerly along the Westerly
line of Hain Street to its intersection with an Easterly prolongation of the
Southerly line of Henry Street; thence Westerly along the Southerly line of
Henry Street to the point of beginning;
are in an unsanitary, unsafe and dilapidated condition, and
~RF~S, these structures have existed in a partially demolished and
deteriorating condition for more than a year, and
~F~ERF~S, the Building Official of the City of Ukiah has duly notified
the property owners of the condition of the structures and have requested
submission of a definite program to eliminate the unsafe conditions, and
I~ERF~S, no such program nor definite time schedule for elimination of
the unsafe conditions has been presented.
NO¥~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the above referenced structures are
hereby declared to be dangerous buildings and a public nuisance.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the intention of the City Council to
commence abatement proceedings as provided in Division 5, Chapter 10 of the
Ukiah City Code. The Building Official of the City of Ukiah is hereby
directed to prepare and serve "Notices of Hearing To Abate Buildings or
Structures By Removal or Repair" as provided in Section 3303 of the Ukiah
City Code. Said Public Hearing to be held at 7:00 p.m., November ]8, 198].
