RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH ENDORSING THE CALIFORNIA STATE COASTAL CONSERVANCY GRANT FOR A STUDY OF THE RUSSIAN RIVER WHEREAS, the California State Coastal Conservancy is proposing to grant $100,000 to the Mendocino County Water Agency to prepare a Russian River Resource Enhancement and Public Access Plan; and WHEREAS, the Russian River is a very valued resource within the Ukiah Valley and has been identified for recreation, natural habitat, water conservation, flood control, aggregate production, and aesthetic opportunities; and WHEREAS, a better understanding of the River's potential is necessary as a basis upon which to develop strategies and programs for the optimum use of this resource; and WHEREAS, the City owns property on the River, the River provides a substantial portion of the City's water supply, the River is a significant element to be addressed in the Growth Management/General Plan Project, and the City desires to be an active participant in the planning effort. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City of Ukiah City Council: 1) strongly supports the California State Coastal Conservancy Grant for the Russian River Resource Enhancement and Public Access Plan, and 2) recommends an advisory committee, including representation by the City of Ukiah and property owners adjacent to the River, be established to oversee the project.
