RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIAH SUPPORTING A
, PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTH BAY MADE
WHEREAS, our nation is going through one of the most difficult economic times in its history
and despite some signs of an economic recovery at the national level, economic conditions in
cities and towns across the country continue to be challenged by high unemployment or low
wage job creation and high cost of living in addition to many municipal governments facing
significant budget shortfalls and increased demand for services; and
WHEREAS, for economic resiliency and stability, communities are having to rethink the
meaning of economic development, job growth, innovation and the impacts of business on the
environment; and
WHEREAS, by reintroducing local manufacturing and production, a community becomes more I
self-reliant and economically resilient leading to growth in local export opportunities; and
WHEREAS, local production and manufacturing of goods has a high economic multiplier,
meaning that more money recirculates within the c�mrnur�ity and supports other businesses,
jobs and services and that local production can reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions that
result from long supply chains; and
WHEREAS, nationally and regionally, there is a resurgence of "onshoring" jobs by facilitating
local production and manufacturing of food and goods and supporting entrepreneurship; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ukiah actively supports a diverse local economy and the development I
of, and support for small businesses, which make up approximately 80% of the employment i
base of Mendocino County; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ukiah wishes to support its creative economy, enhance opportunities for
local manufacturers, increase pride in local craftsmanship and celebrate the regional "maker"
movement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Ukiah endorses Local Works, FPC's
North Bay Made marketing and branding program and will become an official partner as a
means to help support local businesses that produce food and goods and the independent local
retailers that sell those goods. A North Bay Made Partner is an agency, chamber or business
that supports the program with their positive endorsement. A Partner actively helps promote,
advertise and/or make important connections in the community to advance North Bay Made
initiatives. There is no financial exchange with Partners.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City's Economic Development staff will identify and
implement strategies to support and promote the North Bay Made program through the City's
website, events and ongoing business development.
