RE: AMENDMENT #1 TO AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES FOR GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING FOR
THE RECONSTRUCTION OF ANTON STADIUM
Gentlemen:
Rau and Associates, Inc. (RAU) was requested to provide additional services to the geotechnical
engineering work authorized by the Agreement for Professional Services dated June 11, 2008. Additional
tasks are to 1) Consult with the City and Construction Team about the preparation of soil under
foundation elements, and 2) Review foundation excavations prior to concrete being placed.
Proiect Description:
Reconstruction of Anton Stadium
The project was designed to have all floors at the approximate original ground elevation, with no
basement structures. Concrete foundations and steel superstructure are to support a roof over the
grandstand. New restroom facilities on the ground floor, with concrete slab-on-grade floors, complete the
reconstruction elements.
Construction drawings were prepared by Richard Ruff, Archtects, and structural design was provided by
Mendocino Engineering. Ferranti Construction is the General Contractor.
Chancre to Scope of Geotechnical Services
The scope of work is increased now that the construction is definitive. Consultation about how the soil
should be prepared under the concrete slab floors and roof support elements was done on August 17,
2011, in a discussion including the General Contractor and City Community Services Department
Representative. The construction sequence of various foundation elements, and the ground preparation
required prior to the excavation for those elements was discussed. Because the entire structure appears
to be founded in original ground, and because of the network of trenches needed across the site to install
utilities and foundation elements, no re-processing of the soils below the building pad was deemed
necessary. This conclusion is subject to review and confirmation by a geotechnical engineer as the work
progresses.
Construction Drawings have been revised such that all foundation elements are intended be founded in
undisturbed soil. A review of the conditions of the excavations will be made by a RAU geotechnical
engineer to assure that there are not un-anticipated soil conditions prior to placement of reinforcement
and concrete.

RAU will provide a letter report upon satisfactory completion of the foundation excavations describing soil
and foundation conditions encountered and any measures taken which are different than shown on the
Project Construction Drawings.
RAU is willing to provide these additional services at no additional cost to the City as a contribution to the
community effort on this project.
Schedule:
The review of foundation excavations will be coordinated with the General Contractor to conform to his
schedule as much as is practical.
Very truly yours,
