HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-46 Dir Public Safety contractRESOLUTION NO. 2009- 46 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKIA ADOPTING ADDENDUM TOEMPLOYMENT CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF UKIA AND THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY WHEREAS, the Director of Public Safety is employed by the City of Ukiah under an individual employment contract; and WHEREAS, the employee provides significant executive management to the organization and is, therefore, aware of and working within the constraints of the current financial conditions facing the City of Ukiah; and WHEREAS, said employee is willing to participate in a 5% reduction of pay that is being requested of all City of Ukiah employees, for a period of time encompassing the first full pay period beginning in January 2010 and ending the last full pay period that begins in June 2011, and to extend his employment contract to June 20, 2011. WHEREAS, said Addendum has been presented to the City Council for its consideration. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Addendum to the employment contract of the Director of Public Safety is hereby adopted. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of December 2009, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmembers Landis, Crane, Baldwin, Vice Mayor Rodin NOES: None ABSENT: Mayor Thomas 1 q ABSTAIN: None It 1 p Mari Rodin' Vice Mayor ATTEST: JoAnne Currie, City Clerk Public Safety Department Public Safety Director December 7, 2009 Mayor Benj Thomas, Vice Mayor Mari Rodin, Council Members Philip Baldwin, Doug Crane, Mary Anne Landis, and City Manager Jane Chambers: Because of the ongoing financial crisis for the City of Ukiah, the City Manager has asked each employee bargaining unit to consider a salary decrease. The City Manager and I have met with the members of each of the Public Safety Department's negotiating units and each unit has subsequently voted in favor of proposing the following modifications to the existing agreements with the City of Ukiah, which were approved on December 2, 2009 at the Ukiah City Council meeting. I, too, respectfully request to decrease my salary and to modify the agreement of the Public Safety Director and the City of Ukiah with the same modifications as each Public Safety Unit has agreed to, specifically: Temporary Conditional Amendment to the Public Safety Director's Employment Contract. 1. Temporary Salary Adjustment: Effective the first full pay period in January of 2010, and ending through the last full pay period that begins in June of 2011, the Public Safety Director agrees to receive a 5% reduction in base salary. 2. Continuation: The City and the Public Safety Director agree that all conditions of employment established by City policy, including all conditions affecting wages, hours, and working conditions that are not specifically addressed in the temporary amendment to the Contract shall remain in effect, with both the City of Ukiah and the Public Safety Director agreeing to extend the terms of our current contractual agreement through June 30, 2011.
